China hasn't won a single war in a milennia. What do you think the British/Dutch/French/Spanish Empires were. The only nation left uncolonised were the Ethiopians, ironically the most intellectually capable people in Africa, because they managed to put up a shred of resistence, having got past the whole 'tribal warfare' schtick.
As for why it's not happening today, in the time it took Europe to recoup from tearing itself apart over the course of two world wars; the suicidal original-sin of the European man was instilled by the burgers, and spread with it's culture. Most European militaries probably could take Africa single handedly within a decade, if they could account for how thinly they'd be spread - the real issue is the political climate which berates them for daring to think to invade other lands of happy, homogenous cultures to take things for themselves. Except when others do it in an 'unorganised' way, then it's fine..
