They sell 140 shares, but only 100 shares actually exist. You would then say that their short interest is over 100% (to be specific, it's 140%) because they need to buy back more shares than there are in reality to cover their position. But what they're essentially saying is that their short interest is only 71%, because they have to buy 100 shares out of a 140 share position. WOW! Look at that! Their short interest just cut in half overnight!
