I'm not materialistic at all. I grew up in extreme poverty. Now I make 6 figures and I have a pretty good amount invested, but I live in a pretty modest house and drive a 16 year old car. I want more money so I I can lift up my family out of poverty for good and then retire early to Florida and fish every day. I have pleb tastes and that's fine. Money is just a tool to do that stuff.
