If this fake stocks fraud is a thing.
Then the stock market will need a technology that allows single unique items to be traded, even at high frequency, making it impossible to issue fake items.
What then?
Tokenized stocks of course.
If this is a thing, what shitcoin could be used for that?
It would need to allow fast transactions, great volumes, 0 fees.

Not saying that there won't be fees, but of course shit like eth gas fees can't be a thing in the stock market, tokenized stock fees need to mimic the actual fees.

And then stocks could go back to being anonymous? I see zero chance of that happening. Maybe they'll use blockchain technology, but it won't be anywhere near what cryptocurrency is now.

>> No.27242083

>>27241834
Why anonymous? This is not necessarily a feature.
All they need is a technology that is capable of tracking the existing stocks of a company and allow realtime trading, blockchain is perfect for that.

If it's blockchain, I agree, it's viable for stocks. What I thought you meant is that stocks would work like crypto, which no government would ever allow.

I'm talking about tokenized stocks, not about stocks working like crypto.

Why?

It's not perfect at all. Blockchain is slow as fuck under any of its iterations, not even ethereum is scalable enough for the kind of HFTs going on in NYSE, NASDAQ, etc.

However, it does not need to be anonymous indeed like you say, but there are other issues. For instance, blockchains have to be synchronous with every single addition of new info whereas standard stock servers have exquisite redundancy checks of independent data to allow for parallel trading without concurrency conflicts. It's also not optimized enough yet as far as memory storage goes. To be fair, I do think markets will become some kind of smart contract exchange houses eventually, but I also believe political change around the very concept of stocks and their actual role in fundamentals/real economy is going to happen before that.
