Silver miner anon made a fascinating point in the previous thread that warrants more discussion. There are other mining companies who may be directly affected from this First Majestic situation (traders being unable to buy AG stock). If this happens, we need to consider buying other miners who have similar fundamentals to First Majestic, or are acquisition targets by them, in case all brokers completely remove the option to purchase AG. He mentioned Silver One as one company to keep in mind.

one of my silver orders last year had been tampered with ( looked ripped ) and I was missing like 6 oz out of about 50
i ordered canadian, silvergoldbull, and they did a investigation and the delivery guy confirmed it was ripped when he put it in, and what he did not do, was ask for signature.
anyway havent ordered since then cause been nervous and there isnt any local stores around me.
till couple days ago.. have another 100oz on the way.... hope it makes it untouched.
to be fair, the package did look like it got clipped on the corner by another package and blew open, rather then ripped... however.... still hoping for the best.

SVE is the symbol for Silver One in Canada. As I say, Keith Neumeyer talks about buying it out a lot so it's not a bad position to be in if you are expecting AG to soar. If it was simply about the money I'd dump my thousands of AG shares and put them in SVE instead but I keep them in AG on principle because I want to be part of the squeeze. But my position in SVE is still quite as large.

>>27193709

I can only tell you what I've done myself. Namely, apart from my 25% bullion hedge, I am 100% in junior silver miners and have been so during all these painful seven months, from the high in August to the subsequent decline. I was never shaken out and I never will be shaken out. I haven't sold a single miner, and I barely own a pound note in cash. I don't fear a market crash because if such an event did occur it would immediately cause a banking crisis and tens of trillions in bailouts, along with a COMEX default. I always said that if a Black Swan occurred you might see a parabolic increase in the miners which would catch you out for good if you were not already in. We had a taste of that recently in e. g. MUX which in one day simply painted a parabolic line back to August levels, despite a painful and demoralizing seven-month decline. Likewise, AG might utterly astonish us by what it does on Monday. Imagine if this silver squeeze causes a COMEX default and you are not already in the miners when that happens. I simply prefer to be in the right position and wait. I know that I'm getting the 150x if I simply do that waiting so I feel no need to trade in and out. And in fact trading in and out would simply betray a lack of security in my own beliefs.

should I focus on only getting 999.9 silver?

Is 999 silver harder to trade in for money/goods later on? Is almost everything other than Aussie and Canuck just shitcoins?

Or does it not make a difference?

I bought my first 6oz of silver earlier today (all Aussie kangaroos), and now the dealer I bought from is out of stock on a lot of the 999.9 coins, including Maple Leafs.

Can you walk up to a cashier to buy a $1 pack of gum with your phone and tell her you want to pay in Bitcoin. No? Then that's why.

Conversely, I can do the same thing with an ASE, whose face value is $1 and pay for my gum. Is it retarded, considering an ASE is going for over $30 today? Absolutely, but it's still legal tender and I cans still use it for goods and services.

Crypto doesn't help you if there's no ability for you to cash out for everyday goods and services. Crypto has a future, although I don't think something that can have 30-40% swings in daily price like BTC to be an actual store of wealth like many people claim, I believe in many projects and hold some of those myself. But if the government suddenly decides to prohibit third party cryptocurrencies from being converted into legal tender their price will take a dive.

Conversely, the price of Gold or Silver will either rise due to shortage, or will maintain. Prohibiting the ownership of either has always been reverted eventually. All you have to do is dig a hole in your backyard and ride out the storm.

>Conversely, I can do the same thing with an ASE, whose face value is $1 and pay for my gum

In college I had a customer that would leave on business to Europe and leave his kids (he was divorced) with a teenage babysitter..

At 2am every Friday would call in 3 pizzas, sodas, dessert and 1 salad and 2 cups ranch. always came out to like 38$, and they paid with a 50 and let us keep the change. Since it was the last order of the night even if they called it in late we took it, because 12$ tip is 12$. One time they paid me 2x 20$ and 10x ASEs.. They did this probably about 15 more times and I built up a nice stack..

DSV is all right but I now find it fairly boring for my taste. The market cap means that it is only a little more leveraged than First Majestic. It might go 5-10x at $50 silver. With something like Bayhorse I can get 100x. I'd put DSV on level 2 or 3 if I could but I refrained from doing so because most people can't buy it anyway, so far as I know. I don't think that it's on the NYSE. I tried to make levels 1 2 and 3 exclusively NYSE stocks.

To give you a comparison, DSV has 1 bn AgEq ounces (not sure how many are actually silver--far less than people think) at 100 gpt. VML has 50 million ounces (NOT AgEq) (1/20th the amount) also at 100 gpt, and a market cap 1/20th the size of DSV. But it also has a serious chance of getting turned into a producing mine. The locals are behind it and it almost did become a mine in the 80s. It also recently released excellent drill results (1200 gpt silver), and has refused to dilute shareholders. And is located in the USA rather than Mexico. Don Durrett speculates that DSV will simply wait for a buyout rather than try to build a mine. So I have no particular reason to choose DSV over (for example) VML.

I think you guys are way too impatient. In my opinion spot will fall on open tomorrow and we'd be able to acoomuluate at lower prices.

Besides currently gold is a better deal probably since the gsr went sharply down.

For example on 11th January I bought gold at the same price as today. Since then silver spot has gone up almost 2 dollars. I know ag normally outperforms ag, but I think silver is a bit too high right now.

I find dsv pretty comfy, although I bought the top. It's a proven resource, Mexico is a good jurisdiction imo and the team seems competent. Besides the initial high grade resource can be expanded with rising prices, making mining the outer lower grade zones viable. It can be developed in an open pit. They're also currently exploring additional high grade veins around the main deposit.

But for me what's important is that they have 80 million in cash, meaning they don't need to raise any money to fulfill the whole drilling program. A new PEA is coming this year too. Meaning the stock has a very low risk (assuming rising pos).

On the other hand I also think they'd prefer to be acquired, but I don't see this generally as a bad thing.

It's definitely a case where you can't lose if silver goes up. And if DSV did turn into an open-pit mine then it would make its shareholders a fortune. I simply find more to like in IPT than DSV for now, and IPT is my "core" Mexico stock (SSE and VGLD for the Mexican microcaps).

One thing which I have been thinking about lately is that cash isn't necessarily a good thing. I expect cash to go to zero in the very near future, so if cash is priced into a market cap I feel as if I'm paying for something worthless.

By the way something else I should have mentioned is jurisdiction. I see DV, SVE, as "core" positions which you simply can't lose by holding if silver goes up, each in its own jurisdiction (respectively Canada, the United States). My "core" position for Mexico is already IPT, so I don't feel a need to hold DSV as well.

No, gold embodies the sun. The sun in ancient time was a god. Emperors were direct manifestations of the sun as a principle (unmoving mover). Sol invictus. Thats why kings and emperors wore golden crowns and whatnot, to further enhance the might of the sun. Turning shit to gold (making yourself a better person) is one of the principles of alchemy. GOLD, SUN the very words are just delicate to speak, the vowels making them pleasingly warm words.

I was thinking the same thing, but it's still going to be necessary in the short to medium term. Imagine if they didn't have it and had to raise capital to fund the drilling. In such a scenario with high inflation I don't think a lot of people would be feeling adventurous enough to fund something like this, even if a fortune is offered. Simply because people would prefer to play it safe. Because in this case we'd be profiting from fear, not greed.

There's a couple of ways to do the calculation, but the one that I like goes like this. Historically 0.1oz of silver has been worth one day's wages for unskilled labor. Minimum wage in the US ranges from $7.25/hr to $12/hr. If you multiply it out this suggests that silver should be worth somewhere in the $600-1k range unless there's some reason it would have become significantly less valuable in the past century.

$1000 an ounce silver on the basis of

1) The average historical wage, from Graeco-Roman times to the early 20th century (about 1/10th of an ounce);

2) Given that 1980 was simply an exposure, by the Hunt Brothers, of the true price of silver when the derivative market falls apart, the 1980 ATH adjusted for real inflation (which is $966 according to ShadowStats);

3) From calculating a DGR of 1:1 and a GSR of 1:15, as we had also in 1980 (1:15 is simply the normal historical average for silver; and the mining ratio is even 1:8);

4) The short positions of the banks. GME was 140% short; owing to the big 8 banks, silver is 50,000% short;

5) Common sense about the rarity and usefulness of silver. Almost no stockpiles (governments have only 3 weeks' mine supply), annual investable supply is only about 100 million ounces, less than a $3 billion market cap or about the same as GME before the squeeze. And yet silver is critical for modern life. Mining insiders say that pretty much all high-grade silver deposits are now gone. Silver is so rare that owning 60 ounces ($1500) puts you in the top 1% of owners. Owning 30 ounces of gold ($55,000) puts you in the top 1% of gold-owners. Gold is also mined at a mere 1:8 ratio with silver. Yet the GSR is 1:70. The historical average is 1:15: some say 1:10. The artificially suppressed price of silver is causing it to be consumed so fast that if we don't squeeze silver to $1000 soon, the world might simply collapse into a new Dark Age.

>I would be really interested in some sources on historical wages in precious metals. that would be fascinating. i remember someone here shared what british and roman soldiers use to earn...

This is without a doubt the best article which I have ever read on the subject. I was really happy when I found it. Posted it here before when I was arguing with Big Bob in one of his mischievous moods but it got lost in the noise so I'm glad to have a chance to show it again.

"Rob Kirby notes that for 3000 years an upper-middle class annual wage was between 40 and 60 troy ounces of silver. We know this because the Greeks and Romans were meticulous record keepers — which provides a nice starting point for translating yesterday’s wages into the estimated equivalent paychecks for today’s laborers.
There are numerous historical examples that show the average pay for a full day’s worth of unskilled labor has been 0.1 troy ounces of silver. Yes, one-tenth of an ounce!

It is generally accepted that lower-tiered Roman solders were paid a single silver denarius (0.12 troy ounces) per day. Likewise, Matthew 20:2 in the New Testament refers to the denarius as being the daily wage for a common vineyard laborer. So, assuming a six-day work week, that equates to 312 denarii per year — or an annual income of 37.5 troy ounces of silver for common laborers and soldiers.

But what about skilled labor and military officers? Well, we know that a talent of silver would pay a skilled craftsman’s wages in Greece for nine years; a Greek talent is approximately 836 troy ounces. Therefore, one can grossly estimate that the annual wage for a skilled craftsman back then was in the neighborhood of 93 troy ounces of silver. As for the military, the lowest-tiered Roman Centurions received 3750 denarii per year, while the highest ranking officers earned 15,000 denarii (between 450 and 1800 troy ounces)."

Depending on what timescale you look at, technology reduces labor costs to assay, mine, refine, and mint.
That is if you're talking about ancient times at least. I don't know how much mining has changed post industrial revolution.

"In Charles Dickens’ 1843 novella, A Christmas Story, Scrooge paid Bob Cratchit 15 silver shillings per week. A silver shilling at that time had a silver content of about 5.2 grams — which means Cratchit received 133 troy ounces of silver annually as an accounting clerk.

By the early 20th century, Henry Ford was paying his Model T line workers $5 per day. However most people don’t realize that approximately half of that $5 rate was bonus pay over and above their regular rate of $2.25 per day. But even at $2.25 per day, those early auto workers were earning the daily equivalent of 1.6 troy ounces of silver per day — or about 416 troy ounces of silver annually.

Historical data from Europe also shows that in the last half of the 19th century, common laborers were paid an average daily wage of 0.44 troy ounces of silver, while building craftsmen were paid 0.77 troy ounces of silver. During the Great Depression, an American carpenter could earn $2 per day — that’s the equivalent of 1.4 troy ounces of silver coins at the time — to install a hardwood floor in a Sears-type bungalow.

In 1964, a US Army private earned $78 per month. Based upon the silver content of US currency at the time, that’s equivalent to 724 troy ounces of silver annually — roughly 19 times the pay of his Roman Empire counterpart.

The Bottom Line

Today a worker making the minimum wage averages, at best, $120 a day. With that in mind, in order for silver to reach the historical valuations it enjoyed two millennia ago, the humble denarius — roughly 0.1 troy ounces of silver — would need to have a melt value of $120.

This implies that silver is currently more than 70 times cheaper on a historical basis than it should be. Think about that."

Yeah, that's the basic counterargument. The counter-counterargument involves increasing industrial uses of silver in various forms of technology and the fact that silver production has been decreasing each year for a while now, but at that point you're basically making a judgement call how heavily to weight each factor. Personally I believe that as low as $100/oz silver is plausible, but I wouldn't be surprised if it hit $1k/oz long term either.

I think I bought up a good portion of the seconds coins apmex had. Bought 50 1 oz coins, 50 of any silver (can get literally any silver here as long as there's 50 ounces I don't know what I'm getting), and 70 1 oz bullions. Got in on friday when it was still 26 dollars spot, soon after I got in a lot of their stuff went on "pre-order", think I'm gonna get a good variety. Hopefully their worker had fun picking out 120 coins and bullions to send me, they're supposed to send a variety so it will show how hard their workers do their job. It was cheaper to buy this way and they come packaged so I thought it was a steal. Will post pics when it arrives on the 3rd.

Gold premiums are lower, not higher, unless you're talking about fractionals. 1oz will usually see anywhere from 3-6%, whereas it's getting hard to find low denomination silver below 10% premium.
