You’re going to have to buy GRT first.
Then transfer to an encrypted wallet address like Metamask with enough ETH to delegate to a chosen indexer. This will probably cost about $50 worth of ETH to do but could be less like $25 depending on network traffic. Keep in mind you’ll have to do the same to undelegate and that there is a 28 day cool off period where your GRT is locked once you undelegate. There are step by step guides available and should be in this thread.

To buy both GRT and ETH to transfer to a wallet in order to initiate the process, yes. You won’t be able to delegate from your Coinbase account because of how centralized exchanges work. They really have custody (are custodians) of your assets on account like a bank. You essentially have the value of assets and they owe that to you but really not tied to a particular asset until you take custody of it. The smart contract for delegating to an indexer needs to be from assets in your custody (i.e. wallet).
