Since this thread has become more of a "how do I store mushrooms?" thread, I'll throw down what's worked for me for years:
-make sure shrooms are properly dehydrated (don't want them going moldy); add one of those food dessicant packs if you're worried
-put them in a glass mason jar
-store in a cool, dark place
That's it. They don't keep forever that way, but will last a good long while. Potency will remain relatively unchanged for upward of a year, but I rarely keep them that long.
Either keep on hand what you'll consume within a reasonable time frame or move them on to someone else.

Would have a trip sitter or take with someone else that is of sound mind, because shit gets hairy sometimes. Just stay out of public and you should have a good time. Also, if possible keep a benzodiazepine on hand, if the trip starts to get out of your control you can take a .5 alprazolam and the trip will end very quickly, but gently.

Not him (I'm the LSD post) so my advice is limited as far as shrooms go but I did not have a sitter for my first trip, and I honestly prefer being by myself versus with friends.

Make sure you don't have anything serious going on in life when do start, and have a playlist of music ready because trying to search for music in the moment isn't easy. People say shrooms are better for being outdoors in nature, so if you have private land with either a backyard, or woods and stuff that you enjoy that'd be a bonus, but being out in public probably isn't a good idea.

Don't just try boomer psych rock like pink floyd or grateful dead, that ancient shit is incredibly overrated for tripping purposes. There is definitely music that is like, purposely made with psychedelics in mind, but for your first time just listen to music you personally enjoy, because it will sound, look, and feel more amazing than it ever did sober.

Try to do some research to put your mind at ease.
Learn about "set and setting." Get yourself in a good place mentally and physically.
Make sure you don't have any obligations hanging over your head.
Clean your room.
It's ok to go it alone your first time; start with a light dose like <1g. 2g and up for first time, definitely have someone trusted and experienced nearby.
Learn about the substance and the timeline of its effects. It's easier to remind yourself that you're on a drug if you know how long it lasts

Potency loss of shrooms depends on water content, temperature stability and presence of oxygen.
If they were at least two of the following they're good to go.
>Dry enough to snap without bending ("Cracker dry")
>Whole rather than ground
>Undisturbed

There will still be potency loss, but you might get lucky.

Some people on Shroomery store their shrooms inside a buried box for years and have reported excellent results.
