Well, let's say the WallStreetBets' schemes goes as planed and hedge funds are forced to cover their shorts for infinity dollars per share. What could happens next?

Every hedge fund, that was exposed to GME shorts, gets its portfolio liquidated to pay for their losses. This means sale of all assets that they had in their long positions (that is your normally "bought and hold" shares). Which means drops in stock prices all across the board, which can trigger panic sales and in turn into a market crash. Furthermore, hedge funds, with market crashing at the same time as they have to cover their naked shorts, are scrambling for cash to cover their massive loses, but are unable to do so. They go bankrupt. Who then has to pay their debts? Their brokers. And brokers (even the big ones, the ones that hedge funds typically only do business with) don't typically have billions of dollars lying around. So they go bankrupt as well. That causes insolvency in the markets, and lot of contracts fail to deliver. That means a) panic and b) lawsuits, with b) causing even more of the a) as a result.
So while previously markets were crashing, now they're lying down, bleeding from every orfice. People are desperately pulling money out of everything, stock accounts, ETFs, whatever, literally whole derivatives system is getting unraveled in a matter of days. This means huge problems and possible bankruptcy of every company that was heavily exposed to financial markets, like banks and insurance companies. So the market is now not only dead, but vultures are now beginning to rape its corpse. While all of this was happening, governments had been issuing bailouts left and right, but all it did was creating hyperinflation, that destroyed savings of everyone, even people who never had a bank account, let alone investment account. Collapsed dollar causes chain reaction in Europe, SEA tries to protect itself by shutting down its markets, but the global crisis continues and eventually... death.
