What's the worst case that happens with GME today? Assuming that all goes to plan with the retail investors, and the hedge funds get fucked, what happens? Are we looking at another 2008? Worse?

Just letting my imagination run wild here, but the clownworld timeline probably looks like this:
Biden will issue an executive order that pardons the hedge funds and allows them to default on their contracts. The SEC will issue orders for all exchanges to pay out and close all GME positions, options will be ceased, refunded and nullified. All GME holders will get a mandated price of $1500 per share. Shortly after, GME will be delisted and then re-listed at fair market price. The WSB ringleaders get vanned and sent to gitmo.

Worst case? Heavy government intervention, trading halted, and bank holiday declared. People go to the streets and are met with riot police everywhere. Hordes of sheeple rush Manhattan as the few rich guys with a helicopter escape, while the rest are taken by the mob and hang from lampposts. Martial law and insurrection act called, but military and police are split between following orders and wanting not to shoot civilians who're out for blood. As the system completely collapses, China makes its move towards the USA, annexing Alaska and starting WWIII.
I think that's the worst case scenario.
