I play in pennsylvania and new jersey. We have legalized and regulated online poker out here. If you are stateside, there are a few options for online poker, but they arent particularly soft (nv, nj, pa are all fairly soft player pools)

Online options in CA are meh. If you want to be serious about poker I would spend time playing online to learn fundamentals (and basically expect to lose) and transfer those skills to crushing the mouth-breathers out at commerce or bay 101 or whatever live poker casino is closest to you

>>26913796
Yeah I mean, you could say that about anything... Not everyone can be lucky and get in at poker 2004 or btc 2010 or whatever. You can still beat the world at any game as long as you are willing to put in the time to figure out the appropriate strategies

Bots crush any human competition. As such, I moved back from playing abroad (I played pokerstars 2008-2014 on the worldwide/international site) to playing on legalized and regulated usa sited post 2015. There are legal penalties for bot usage on the USA sites so I feel safer playing here in the current environment

Honestly you would prob already be a winning player at the austin or dallas clubs that spread poker. If you want to maximize earnings, I would subscribe to a training site and try to absorb as much info as possible. Anyone playing live at the 1/2-5/10 level is basically a 80iq mongoloid, pros included

>> No.26916719

>>26914118
This is fairly difficult to explain to a person not deeply into poker. There are strategies that you can employ that dominate a layman's strat. It revolves around how you construct the range of hands you would take a particular action with. If your opponent isnt sizing their bets or picking the exact correct combos to bet, check/call, check/fold, check/raise etc with, then you are beating them. I can try to clarify further if that is too esoteric

>> No.26916854

I don't have a subscription to the upswing lab, but I respect the pros who produce content there. They very well could be the best poker training site atm.

For a hardened pro like me, yes. Coming it as more of a greenhorn, you won't hit that winrate for a while. Its def possible after x amount of study and play hours though.

Hope you are serious about this brah! If you actually like poker and put in the time, you'll crush it

I’m trying man. I’ve been grinding tourneys on betonline for the past year and a half in uni. I’m doing real well in tournaments—cuz so bad, but cash is tough. I’m too aggressive on river bluffs, and I still can’t fold upper half of my range when I should. But other than that I’m solid I think. I plan on heading to Texas w my gains, and run it up from 10k. I think i can do it, but you don’t know until you do it

Hard for me to say as I don't know other particulars of your life situation. Are you going straight YOLO into poker with no other real prospects? You plan on running up a 10k life roll for this venture or just 10k for the poker roll and you have some extra cheddar on the side to take care of rent and other expenses?

Typically when you are running it up from lower stakes like that, you want to run your roll up to a point where you can play in games where rake is decimating your advantage. For example, in a 1/2 live game where they rake preflop action, you are going to have a hard time breaking like $5-10/hr. You want to exit this sort of situation as soon as possible, bankroll granting. 2/5 is less bad, and 5/10 and higher much less so. How fast you can move up is dictated by your bankroll and skill level.

Sorry for this tipsy rant, but yeah I can't tell you exactly how much you need to play because some of these factors are unknowable to me (esp how well you play... like how could you explain that to me?) but its almost assured you have to put in sick hours at the lower stakes if you plan to make the real bucks in a year or two

The 10k would just be for poker. I’m starting to build a pretty comfy life, so I could reinvest all my profits back into my poker roll. Though it sounds like I should start w 15k so I can play 2/5. I plan on living from interest of my investments and poker gains. 20 hours/week for 100k/yr is my ultimate poker goal.

As as a recreation player, there is prob enough youtube free content to get you up to a decent level. I'd check out the videos on the bluffthespot youtube channel, specifically the vids of lower stakes.

Once you are winning at smaller stakes, say 10nl-50nl, I would probably look into paid training sites. I know runitonce has a subscription available targeting players who play smaller stakes, and that will run you $10/month (last I checked.)

I spend a decent amount of time browsing poker related content, probably somewhere around 20-100hrs/month depending on how much I feel like doing it. At times I'm taking it more seriously and grinding out poker simulations and solutions and at some times I'm just shitposting on the poker forums.

Rest of the time I'm browsing here, crypto twitter, or hanging out with the gf
