Do you guys actually know anything about trading or economics or do you just look at the graphs and pray?

Serious question, I'm getting serious FOMO but I never studied finance in college.

Is the wall street jargon just all a scam? Do you really need it to make money on stocks?

There's a certain amount of stuff I'm willing to learn but there's definitely a limit for me where the amount of effort spent learning exceeds the potential gains. It's not like I have tens of thousands of dollars to throw at this, I just have a couple thousand that I'm willing to gamble with.

Started with crypto somewhere in August last year, still have no clue wtf I'm doing but I went from 5k to 30k so I think I'm doing something right. What I can tell you though is to stay away from stocks, too many (((thems))) there and you'll never win. There are winners and losers there just like with crypto, except only (((hey))) win and you only lose. With crypto it's different. Just jump on the latest bandwagon that looks like legit, not some obvious pajeet rug pull and then pray.

I don't think it's that simple though. Sure you can look up what a term you do not understand means, but like with anything, unless it's rock bottom basics, you'll just be lead down a rabbit hole of looking for more and more definitions because the definition of whatever you were looking up in the first place was nontrivial.

No I don't do much reading. I really just go by feel. Some guidelines I try to work by though:

1. Don't buy shares of old companies unless you have good reason to believe they are doing something revolutionary.

2. Don't buy shares when a company is on a sharp upwards turn. Common sense tells me it's probably artificially high.

3. Think about what a company might do in the future, not what they are doing now. You have to be ahead of the market, which means roleplaying as a company and guessing what they may do before they announce it.

4. General logic. I bought US agriculture when tariffs seemed to be on the horizon and yet prices weren't as high as I thought they should be. That worked out good in the end.

You can get really deep into theory, but if you just buy an SP 500 index fund and wait a decade, you'll easily beat inflation or a savings account. I recommend just waiting for a big dip, get in for a few years, and get out when things are at an all time high, repeat.

Mate they wouldn't have taught you anything useful anyway. Just learn the basic ta patters, go through all of the tools on your trading platform and search their use on YouTube, read basic economics by Thomas sowell, look up how derivatives work and really try to conceptualise it and lurk on /biz/. Through repetition this should just come naturally if you're an intuitive thinker. I started investing early last year and I've turned $5k into over $40k so far (20yo) still learning, plenty of more money to be made.

To add to this, learn what the company is actually doing. And I mean LEARN. You have to think about whether it is realistically possible for them to do it, and whether they have the people to pull it off. Screw market analysts.
The big buys can be found this way. To this day I regret not buying into AMD when it was at $2 back in 2016. I would have been shitting into a gold-plated toilet today.
Also, look at stocks that are low-priced. Sure, low-risk, low-gains, but it's easier to take off without risking a fortune.
Although I will say this - DO NOT GO INTO TRADING FOR A QUICK BUCK. Think long-term. High frequency trading and all the Wall Street bullshit will be rigged against you if you're hoping to make bank on the dip or on a sudden peak.

In other words this GME thing was a once in a lifetime deal I missed out on and I'm fucked?

I mean maybe if you have 5 figures to invest you can actually make something but I have about $2000 to throw at this so it'll do fuck all in a decade. And in a decade I'll be fucking old.

>> No.26906250

No. There is always a "once in a lifetime" deal around the corner. They happen every once in a while. Get in when the stock is low, and enjoy the ride once they take off. You just need to be patient, calm and wise.
What is unique about this is that it can bankrupt Wall Street. It is quite possible everyone involved will lose all their money. For us it's tree-fiddy. For them it's EVERYTHING.

>> No.26906822

Dude, bitcoin's first peak was not even five years ago. Of course they will not appear everyday, but the market always has some windows of opportunity from time to time.
Last march, most stocks went REALLY down, now some of them are at 4x the price.
Also, oil price went negative for the first time in history last year too.
I don't think you can live off the market by just investing at the start because it takes time to pay off. So, the best start (And the one I pretend to follow) is to get a good/decent paying job and invest on those windows of opportunity from time to time, never too much tho.
