A put option is a contract that gives you the option to sell a share at that price. So a $20 put option gives you the right to buy 100 shares (hopefully its cheaper) and sell it at 20.

Put options expiring wouldnt affect the price as nobody will exercise them and they will expire worthless. Call options give you the option to BUY 100 shares at a certain price...say $20 and sell the shares(or in some cases actually retain them) at the current market price. Options contracts dont move prices the way you think they do.

SHORT positions do move though, because margin calls(aka big losses) will mean people having to buy to cover the positions. That means a flood of purchase orders.
