I am now wise to this. I was simply naive before. Women often only learn through extreme hardship and exposure to near death or poverty, they won't understand otherwise. You can play it one of two ways, you can either deny her nice things and never expose her to the consequences of her decisions (for some this is necessary), or you can stash money into shares etc that you know you'll be using within a year or two, and just let her dig a hole, then bail her out. For example, if we go on holiday, she'll usually cover the flights and I'll usually cover the hotels (or vice versa if flights are more expensive).
