Yes, if you know for sure which stock will rise at what point in time, you can very easily make money. But if you buy into e.g. GME right now, the drop will be much, much larger than any index ETF. And you can speculate what is "going to moon next", but you can just as easily be wrong, while something like ETF gives you some degree of certainty, at least in the long run.
