Really, it seems to me that gamestop doesnt give a fuck about adapting.
I worked for them in 08-09 and I remember discussing how Steam was growing and saw the push against used games by the publishers.
At the time, gamestop was basically trying to ride it out on preorders via exclusive bonuses. Now theyre fucked.
At the same time, they had cut all non-current gen consoles from their used games shelves, which opened a market for competitors to move in on them.
They literally had a strangle hold on the used games market and physical copy market for about 5 years, and they did NOTHING with their dominant position.

So I go into a store around xmas 2020 and see theyre carrying classic consoles again. Lol. The people running the company are retards. But, this shit is fucking funny as hell and in that, they could stand to get some extra cash to adapt. But I doubt they will.
Literally like blockbuster... Refusing to adapt and just riding it into the sewers.
