The BANK isnt obligated to buy the shares, the hedgefund is. But if you only sell for 1 million then they can try to buy shares back after giving back the shares they loaned. They have to buy 138% of the shares that currently exist so they have to buy several shares twice anyway.

It can, yes. I think $2000 is likely, but you never know in this clown market. That is of course if the government doesn't do something like stop trading on it or something. But the hedgefund MUST buy it at some point that is guaranteed. And cheapest for them to do it by Friday. Because if not then the interests is going to kill them and the price might continue up if they extend it. They HAVE TO buy at some point and they better do it before they are broke.

But many other hedgefunds have put even more money into the short and doubled down on it. Maybe they are hoping the price will go down. You BET they put their lawyers on it and they are going to do everything they can.
