Lemme back up a bit. My automated trading is confined to crypto since price moves much more wildly and there is more inefficiency to take advantage of. I just get the close price standard deviation for the last few months and look for a 4 or 5 sd move within a 5 minute period then I go long. I also hand select some charts and look for large instantaneous moves that I hard code in. I buy then sell the bounce. 100x'd my money in a few months doing that.
For stocks I just look for huge moves off either all time low or all time high. Moves off ath are for stuff like TQQQ and other index ETFs that basically only go up. If it drops 30% or something my scanner will let me know. I look for spikes off the all time low on stuff like UVXY and other volatility based products. If it spikes high enough I short or buy puts. I have made bank with just these simple strategies

if you want to sell options, you HAVE to move to InteractiveBrokers. No fees on getting assigned. Usually amounts to $2-$3 trade (on other leaf brokers, it'll amount to $20-$30 per trade because of $9.99/base fee plus $1/contract). Trading shares pretty reasonable too on IB.
but again it's just convoluted it's not recommended for newbies at all. There are very small fees for order cancellations too. Like it will all be cheaper in the end compared to paying $9.99/trade
