No, the main project hasn't been released yet. By the time the unlock happens, people will be using BAO to create and balance synthetic assets on Sushiswap. Depends how much capital you have. If you are farming more than $500 worth then it's probably better to farm since a month of farming will more than pay off any gas fees. If you're planning to farm $100 worth then it's not worth it right now since ETH is shit and will eat away half of that in fees.

No need to manually harvest. It costs gas to do so because ETH needs to send the transaction to the contract. bAO automatically gets harvest whenever you stake/unstake LP. So you'll want to just wait until then so you're not double dipping on gas fees for no reason. Either add more to your stack or pull your stack out, but manually harvesting isn't worth it in most cases unless you really need that 5% right now.

Gas fees are dynamically calculated based off network congestion and calculation difficulty of the transaction. So you can wait out for cheaper fees of they're too high, but I'd say on average you may be looking at ~$15 fees to buy. For providing liquidity and farming it'll probably be ~$35 or so. You can adjust the amount of gas you want to pay and use the slowest option for the bao.finance step since it's not going to time out. But you want to at least use average speed for buying. Also before purchasing in Uniswap, go to Uniswap settings and increase the "slippage" to 1%.
