If you're trying to shift the goalposts to "what the majority values" it won't work, you'll have to go quite a bit farther to "what the majority of wealth holders value" which, guess what, is context dependent on their goals because there's no such thing as intrinsic or objective value.

You will never be a successful trader until you realize that every individual values things differently and that your goal as a trader is to satisfy demand by shifting commodities and services around such that you wind up with more resources than you started with. The actual commodities/services don't matter, and buying one commodity to sit on such that you can sit on it until demand is higher in the future is extremely small brain.
