Coinbase is not a wallet, you are essentially allowing Coinbase to hold a wallet for you. It's the most popular for a reason and it's pretty reliable. But at the end of the day it's not YOUR wallet.

If you use metamask, which is YOUR wallet but with a slick browser addon, you can also actually use your GRT to delegate or index.

Coinbase hasn't had a major hack or they wouldn't be in business. However, it's still a centralized service holding your assets, so they can be hacked, have their power go out, have their city be nuked, etc.

the whole point of crypto is decentralization, so writing private keys down and burying them in the woods is probably your most secure option. As long as the internet still exists you can get your funds.
