Okay so I decided to sell most of mine as I'm in crypto to make gains, though I really like the utility and privacy of XMR. It's seen a +6,764% increase which is really nice but other coins far outpace it. It performs well when others fail and for that reason I believe it's a good store of wealth but not great for big gains. I will buy back in at some point anyway.

It's a spending coin... Those never do that well besides one or two moonshots in their history.. In other words cryptos that have a narrative focus on its use for spending don't do as well over time. Why do you think no one cared about bcash for example? Because they didn't want to spend it on coffee... And those that did care about forcing themselves to spend it for the sake of the meme... Well that just put downward pressure on the price.... monero hides amounts and uses a proof to verify that the inputs equal the outputs. the proof can be faked if you can break the discrete log problem, which quantum computers can do. so theoretically you can craft a tx with a small amount of xmr going in and a large amount coming out and then fake the proof with your quantum computer, and everyone else would be none the wiser to inflation happening.

The reality is that organic demand for actual working products at the moment are not big enough to compete with the demand from hype and speculation in this space. Augur & BAT are two examples of actual working projects that can be utilized now but does not capture enough of the market to catch on for a large market cap.
