Brazillian expat here, living in the US for about half my life now. I've been trying to explain this to every American that has lent me their ear over the last 15 years and it's extremely frustrating that it all amounted to nothing.

The difference in the US is that most Americans were not interested in becoming wards of the state because culturally that was not acceptable and the minority population wasn't high enough to use it as leverage. So America simply imported its dependents, legally and illegally, which served two purposes - one, it gave giant corporations the slave labor they so desired and two, it transformed the country demographically to the point where it can't be stopped. Everyone wants to make it, and historically they had the environment and the tools to do so. With every financial crash, people manage to scrape on by somehow. Realtor I know, out of work because of the pandemic, found a niche in making plexiglass shields to survive and is doing pretty well in that market. That's why the only way to truly and completely crush the productive class is to make it so expensive and difficult to operate that they have no other choice but to close down in the hopes that soon they'll be able to go back to work; except they accumulate more debt, the timeline keeps getting pushed back to the breaking point.

It's a doomed if you do, doomed if you don't scenario. If things stay on course, it's death by a thousand cuts; eventually there will be no more guns to grab, or the few that are out there are irrelevant. Or they continue to compress the spring further and further until it pops explosively and they can't control what happens next. The scenario they're hoping for is for a few disgruntled citizens, disorganized and motivated only by anger or despair to cause a situation favorable to them; a useful sacrifice, let's call it.

I guess my best piece of advice is for all /pmg/ regulars to buy a boat and frequently take their guns and precious metals along with them to roleplay as pirates. But be careful to not have any boating accidents.

you misread the situation. the state is illegitimate in the eyes of 1/3-1/2 of the population now. the regime is playing chicken with a brick wall. any "take the guns" scenario would lead to a situation that would quickly spiral out of their control and a critical mass of the population would not be on the regime's side. we have "real" politics now, people actually feel they have something to lose.

I don't think it's that large a percentage. I suspect a fairly large percentage of people who voted for Trump know that there was fraud in the elections but aren't fully convinced that the fraud altered its outcome. As such, they'll grudgingly accept that Biden is the president and they won't behave like the legions of fucking faggots who threw temper tantrums when Trump won in 2016 all while hoping for better quality elections in 2024. Truth is, neither the Republicans nor Democrats want good quality elections. The Democrats made real efforts to ensure no voter fraud occurred during George W. Bush's and Trump's wins despite their pathetic, hypocritical claims of voter fraud. Likewise, the Republicans made no effort to audit and validate the election process to end any questions about Bush's and Trump's wins.

I think the biggest problem is that while the radical right is actually a tiny minority of the country and never had any say in the government, there are many people on the radical left in positions of power and are calling for clearly unconstitutional actions. Even what were once somewhat moderate Democrats seem to have gone over the edge, perhaps due to advanced age. The more moderate Democrats would do well to remember what their very own, John F. Kennedy, said about impossibilities and inevitabilities. The need to either rein in or remove from office the radical elements in their own party.

It wasn't just gold. We constantly ran out of copper coins and small change throughout the 17-1800's. Silver was less of a problem since most people couldn't afford to spend it or carry it.

There's an entire couple branches of numismatics dedicated to collecting all the tokens that people made all the time because metal coins were hoarded and didn't circulate well.
