Fondly. I treasure the memory. Bitcoin went down with the rest of the stock market, PMs, everything, just as it should - that's how it works in a liquidity crisis. But did you see what happened when liquidity started returning to the market? Compare Bitcoin's recovery to Nasdaq's, you'll see what I mean, trust in Bitcoin is absolutely phenomenal.

It's a hoax with a purpose, if you look at a lot of markets shit was already sliding in November/December because the system is top heavy with baseless fiat. Crypto is a symptom of the times -- it is pure speculation that somehow your bags will be droppable at will and convertible to local fiat. Not a single person here can explain how blockchain works on a technical level yet you have fomo'd all your neetbux into what you see as your chance to escape slavery in the system. At some point after globalhomo crashes the system with no survivors and establishes complete McControl over all McCitizens, the new McCrypto value will be as real as anything is ever allowed to be again, but that will have little correlation to current crypto stacks. Some of you that are 100% crypto are going to be investing in rope when the real shit hits the fan. 2008 was a little babby, 2012 was a nothingburger, 2018 was chink games, 2020 was a warmup.

>this isnt true yet, crypto feels it when stocks crash, it should be a hedge but it doesnt act like one yet
Aargh, no it shouldn't, where did anyone get this idea?
First let's consider BTC, then the rest of crypto.
BTC is digital gold, right? So, let's think about gold, is gold supposed to be a hedge against crashing markets? Hmm. Let's see. Think.
You think the answer is yes, don't you?
NO! Gold is for protecting against INFLATION. The idea is this. You have enough money to buy a house. But you don't need a house today. You might need one in 10 years though. But prices go up, so if you just keep your dollars you won't have enough to buy a house in 10 years. So you buy gold, and because gold is an asset just like the house, the gold price will also go up during those ten years, hopefully at least almost keeping pace with the house price. Gold protects you against the price of things going up, preserving your purchase power, because it is a thing for which the price goes up with inflation, rather than a dollar, which loses purchasing power over time. THIS is what is meant by "store of value". An alternative way to preserve value would be the stock market, and if you invest well you can beat gold. But the whole purpose of gold is to be the totally brain dead place you put your money if you have no better idea where the market may go or what stocks to buy.
When markets crash, people need liquidity and sell their assets, including their store of value assets. After the crash, the stock market recovers, but just holding through the crash might not work, because lots of companies go bankrupt. Again, gold is the brain dead store of value if you don't know what stocks to hold through the crash, because while gold goes down with all the stocks, gold is the only one guaranteed to go back up after! This is what is meant by store of value having an element of crash protection, not that it won't go down but that if the market at all goes back up, gold will too.

Back to BTC. BTC is also a store of value, just like gold, but digital. That means when the market crashes it would also be expected to go down, just like gold. However, if it is indeed a store of value, like gold, the whole test lies in if it comes back again when the market recovers. And did it ever.
Now, if the point of a store of value is just to track inflation, why is BTC doing so fabulously well? Gold sure isn't, it's showing some trouble just keeping up with inflation. BTC is beating inflation by such astronomical numbers that it's not even funny. Why?
Because we are in price discovery of a new asset class, true digital store of value. And the true market cap for digital gold is gigantic. We're nowhere near the top. So the price is climbing to reach its true value, after which it will start becoming more of a true store of value keeping more even pace with inflation.
What about the alts? Well, they are not store of value (some try but have no chance). Since they don't have this role, investing in them is much more like investing in companies in the stock market whereas investing in BTC is like buying gold (although gold in parabolic price discovery). Thus, when the stock market crashes, it is very natural that all the alts fall to. And like the stock market, in a crash you better know which cryptos to hold that might survive and bounce back after the crash, and if you don't know, buy Bitcoin.
But the idea that "crypto is a hedge against the stock market crashing" is completely false.

Bitcoin's value is in its mass adoption, the fact that as more people try to use it btc gets wonkier and less efficient, and the fact that key national players such as china have hoarded substantial amounts of it. The entire nature of bitcoin's current value is that it is inefficient and stupid when taken to the logical extremes of human greed in artificially generating scarcity and tards losing access to their wallets. It has no intrinsic value, every transaction makes it bulkier and more unwieldy, if the big players exited the market and switched to fucking litecoin right now the btc price would approach 0.
