People get paid with GRT for indexing yet query fees are zero. Why is that? Looks like it's yet another ponzi scam

mainnet is still in beta and testnet will be open until Q3, get in early before the big boys start having to stack up GRT tokens and the huge query fees start coming in. If you own over 5k GRT you need to be delegating asap.

because it costs a fuckton to operate an index (multiple servers, $8k+ in hardware and incredibly fast internet - or $2k+ in monthly server rental fees) - and they need indexers to be online and running in order to bring subgraphs onto mainnet. So they have to reward now, or nobody will put up the capital required to start an index node.

>> No.26163951

>>26163789
yes. you can get fucked. there are calculators out there that will help you estimate rewards, but it's all subject to change as more people delegate and/or the indexer changes reward percentages.

>> No.26164008

>>26163789
Yes it matters a lot. Simplest tip would be to pick the indexer with the lowest fee and rewards cut, which means us delegators get more of the share. Also make sure the indexer is getting revenue via query fees and indexer rewards (right side of table). Don't pick an indexer that isn't getting any traffic or rewards, could be risky. Also try to find indexers with a lot of spare capacity so you as a delegator get a greater share of the rewards.

You realize the federal reserve prints dollars at an inflationary rate of about 2.5% per year that have no intrinsic value and whose only use case is money right? If I could use dollars to fuel AWS I
would get as many dollars as possible before smooth brains like you had it spoon fed to you that a single dollar is actually worth much more than the paper it's printed on or even what they've labeled it as. But please, keep FUDing. I need to accumulate another 30k and that's gonna be hard if it's still $0.60.
Do us a favor and live stream your suicide when GRT is $20.

>> No.26164893

>>26164660
Yes the whole point is that the value is derived from the quality of the indexer. So more indexers and more stakers would mean a higher price even with inflation (ignoring token burns). If you look on the GRT site and actual see the curators indexing on the mainnet beta, its just PoolTogether. All the other curators haven't moved. Think of the potential when they move to mainnet and the amount of staked tokens increases by magnitudes.

I get your FUD, the genuine concern is that when they are forced to exit the testnet, these companies decide to quit the Graph. Thats extremely unlikely and most of the curators have already agreed to move to mainnet by end of year.

>> No.26165016

>>26164817
yes but expect your rewards to get smaller as more people join, also there is a 28 day unstaking period so if the indexer is a bad actor or doesn't pay out as promised, you could end up with shit rewards.

>> No.26165195

>>26165016
They should fix that bad actor potential before the whole protocol ends up in fucking court... The system is based on smart contracts, but leave a "fuck over investors" toggle button on the dash board.

There are ecosystem rewards to incentivize "miners" (=indexers) to work and maintain the decentralized API infrastructure up to date at all times.
It's going to adapt but for now it's like that, it create inflation but just like any other crypto. When actual mainnet kicks in, GRT fees burnt are going to be higher by several orders of magnitude, you can even calculate approx how much per epoch from the public data.
>>26164660
> so now the token doesn't have any value and we're basically buying indexer bags?

> Nobody uses this shit.
If you believe in dapps, you have to believe in GRT, it's the only de factor infrastructure. Even non crypto devs are using it, it's the shit, no competition, that's a fact not my opinion btw.

> Uniswap and Coingecko
> They use the centralized servers. They don't give a fuck about GRT.

You absolute retard, all the clients from GRT are off chain and thus is traditional centralized server/website/systems, you are clearly RETARDED.

THE GRAPH IS AN INDEXING PLATFORMS SERVING THE DATA STORED IN SMARTS CONTRACTS.

Coingecko don't need that if they don't need to read what's inside these, it's just a website referencing cryptos, their marketcap, volume, = off chain / real world data. It has nothing to do with blockchain data.

THE FUCKING REAL DEAL IS THAT MOST DAPPS NEED TO PARSE BLOCKCHAIN AT ALL TIMES TO SHOW THE INFORMATIONS TO THEIR USERS, ITS WHAT A GUY SAID: THE GRAPH IS LIKE THE NINTENDO OF BLOCKCHAIN, ITS BRINGS IT, NICELY and curated, TO THE HANDS OF END "USERS"/DEVS/Website/Applications.

The cost to entry will prevent most fuckery. You need 100k GRT, about $6k in harddrives alone, and a pretty decent server to host or all. On top of that the devops expertise to set it all up. I think once you set your rates you can't change them on people without ending the contract which will return their tokens.

>> No.26165464

>>26165195
Being an indexer is the same as running a node. Every blockchain has this vulnerability with node operators but the graph has better incentives than most to make sure indexers are doing a good job. Indexers can be punished and denied their staked GRT if they are a bad actor and get less rewards for being less active.
