Is EU actually interested in this? Because I see smart contracts being a thing in the energy markets, even my boomer professor mentioned them.

IOTA is part of several EU2020 projects, for example CityXChange. They use IOTA so that an energy positive house can sell excess electricity to an electric car without any middleman (and other smart city applications). The project started in Trondheim, Norway and was recently expanded to 5 more cities in Europe

Yes IOTA is also founding member of INATBA, a DLT lobbying group in the EU. They are well connected

BTW if you really want to stay up to date, join IOTA discord. Very active place, invite on Google. 90% of news don't even make it to 4chan (then people here act surprised when "suddenly" Germany uses IOTA to track Covid)

Right, IOTA must have been what the prof ment. He didn't mention it by name, I was just surprised that there was talk about smart contracts, of which I then knew barely anything.

I'll check it out. I wonder if there Is much upside there, if governments are using it. My gut says they don't like volatility, neither upside nor downside.

IOTA will establish "colored coins" in Q2, which means a trusted entity can assign a tag to individual tokens. This means a state or a company could issue IOTA stable-coins (by defining 1i =1$. They could be transferred without fees ofc, beating current stable-coins)

Future is definitely interesting for IOTA
