Just because the market is fluctuating more than 0.5% a day doesn't mean you'll profit from it. Each entry, especially while day trading, is pretty much a coin toss, and you can change the risk/reward ratio but the result is still pretty much the same. You would also have to risk your entire stack each time which is not the way you place bets even if you have an edge, see gambler's ruin.

A trading system where you sold every time something like QQQ went up 0.5% and then bought again the next day to do the same thing likely wouldn't beat the market or everyone would be using it.

ok look at it from my point of view considering a given stock which fluctuates by around 2% on a daily basis say you always buy at exactly noon and at the average price of the market considering it's going up and down 2% that's half positive half negative on average meaning you can get up to 1% and even if you don't do that you're getting 6times what you started with. It's not consistently fluctuating at the same prices and the price doesn't reset the next day, it's a continuation. For example you could buy a $1.00 stock at noon, sell it at $1.02 the same day, and the next day it's $1.10 at noon, so you buy it but it then spends the next week going down without ever reaching your 2% target.
