For context I am a college student in a STEM subject. I would like to get into this and try make some money off it. But where do I even start? What things should I know before I start?

Read Nassim Taleb. Minimize losses while betting against the market.

Read whitepapers. Dollar cost average. Hold your coins and tokens.

Unironically avoid crypto unless you have the self control to not invest more than 10% of your portfolio in these arcade tokens. Same thing with options.

They're generally applicable to anything probability-related.

But they're not like basic textbooks; you'll have to learn the basic vocabulary and jargon of whatever you invest in.

This was another question I had. Whats the best way to learn about jargon?

A lot of people recommend Investopedia. Look up terms you come across. If you're not a retard, you should pick it up via osmosis if you, for example, post here regularly or read related news.

Read Nassim, soak in what he's saying, then throw him in the trash after you realize that /biz/ is Nassim but smarter. Follow the memes, make money. It's that simple. But you need to know how to recognize true and powerful memes.

So basically just all in chainlink.

Because 99% of the memes on these shitcoin shill threads are just rehashed Chainlink memes. It's actually pretty disgusting how these discord trannies steal linkie memes and rehash them to shill scams.

STEM? You'll appreciate this approach methinks:

1) Read this - the bible: https://www.amazon.com/Options-Futures-Other-Derivatives-6th/dp/0131499084

2) Learn about CAPM, Fama-French, Black Scholes and Black Litterman.

3) Finally, find and read this paper (and look for newer takes on the same subject) "Luck Versus Skill in the Cross Section of Mutual Fund Returns."

That'll give you a good base. You'll be tempted to take the index fund pill, and be skeptical of the illusion of choice in the markets. Then you'll look around you and notice there's plenty of retards making money from trading. Eventually you'll start researching crypto (as an asset class) with your traditional financial knowledge and you'll realize the only decent alternative is to go 100% all in LINK.
