Without this option then there is no need for link at all, you could just use a centralised oracle solution.
Granted LP will be easier and expose you to more lucrative queries at first but if you want to run a node that returns GMT or some similar non- privileged information then you absolutely can.
You would then earn multiple tiny fees but would be increasing your nodes reputation.
