It confuses me to no end how anyone could think bitcoin is viable as anything. The proof of work concept means the energy consumption need will grow the harder mining becomes.
Bitcoin miners are already estimated to consume as much energy as Austria or Finland.

Considering some countries like to pretend that they care about the environment, making a push against bit coins seems like a logical step, considering they are literally pissing away energy for nothing. I could post trillions of green frogs for one bit coin transaction.
