from what I've heard as long as you have a superior who is willing to verify that the shit you did relates to security fields you should be okay. CISSP and CISM are the big ones for professional certs and both are 5 years. If you don't have the 5 years you can take CompTIA certs like Security+ (I got this one after studying for 18 days since my degree helped a lot), CySA+, and CASP+.
There's also an ISC2 cert that doesn't need work experience, but from what I've heard it's not really worth getting since it's more effort for the same respect as Security+.
