does therapy work? is it worth paying for or should you lie and say you're suicidal to get the free ones

>> No.25519154

It only helps out people who are borderline retarded in some mental aspect. If you can function somewhat normally and can conceptualize what you have to do then therapy is completely a waste of time and money.

no, it's a waste of time, the single most effective thing to heal all your mental illness is religion

Honestly, this is a midwit trap. Smart people are constantly thinking, and it's possible to find yourself in negative traps of thought.

I would try psychedelics and meditation, perhaps with some ambient music involved, to be more effective. Mushrooms and a bit of weed are great for this, every once in a while. Also if you use any substance daily or eat an unhealthy diet, stop doing this before going to therapy. It's the basics of the basics.

You'll probably just be put on SSRis and stuck in the same negative mindsets that allowed you to become depressive, but be more complacent with them. Depression builds on itself.

You are depressed ---> You don't do someting for yourself ---> You become more depressed ---> You don't do something for yourself. Etc. etc. etc. It's ultimately up to you to break this cycle, and no one else except yourself can. So looking inward to change your habits is crucial. You likely already know what you need to do, but it's tough to break habits. Simplify your goals, and achieve them one step at a time.

Holy crap I'm going to stop masturbating after writing this.

>> No.25519329

It can help because often your mind works against you in this issue and an outside perspective may be needed to overcome this.

poor substitute for a social support system, which is probably what most people who turn to therapy are really after.
It is a tragedy that fraternity is not an option for many younger men for one reason or another.

I love therapy. I don’t have any mental illness or anything so my therapy consist of me talking to a beautiful therapist about my dating life, crypto, meditation, yoga, self work, my work, goals, and relationships. Its super satisfying and clears my mind in a different way. 10/10 worth it.

I also kind of agree with >>25519154
though. When I tried going to therapy years ago for actual problems I felt like I was speaking to idiots and I easily came to the same conclusions as them myself.
But the benefit of just talking about your life for casual advice here and there to a therapist might actually be worth it.

>> No.25519627

>>25519441
I totally agree with that, but this is different. It’s 100% about you and the routine of it lets you hyper focus on yourself and make incremental progress. It has nothing to do with the relationship with the therapist. She is almost like a npc guide while you are focusing on yourself and doing the work and contemplation. I’d give it a shot. It has helped me.

depends on the form of therapy. i spent a few years working out all my shit on an inner experience level and it was well worth it to me. i no longer experience any cycling thoughts, no unwanted thoughts, no emotional distress related to any memories of past experiences, no attention problems, etc. i experience feelings of deficiency and social anxiety rarely or never now. my mental clarity and my ability to ingest information has improved tremendously.

Tried therapy numerous times over the years to try and help with my severe depression but never made even a millimeter of progress. No help or guidance, just a bunch of useless cliches, platitudes, and obvious shit that I don't need to spend hundreds an hour to figure out. If therapy actually provided some useful insights behind why I'm such a wreck and what can be done about it it'd be worth it but I have never met a therapist who can do that. If you aren't the type to handle LSD, a bit of klonopin can guide the trip to a more relaxed state. Make sure you're in a good set and setting. Somewhere relaxing. Pick good music. Get a good friend you are willing to cry around.

A trusted, objective, outside perspective is extremely valuable.

Everyone in your life is entangled with you in some fashion and will talk to you as a means to an end, according to your relationship dynamic.

A cognitive behavioral health therapist is an outside perspective with years of training in the field of psychology/behavioral health.

I would indeed recommend it, ALONG WITH reading into whatever your problems are on your own. If you have trust/abandonment issues, seek out articles/forums/novels/psychology science journals/self-help literature related to that subject. Don't just- chat with therapist- go home- continue doing toxic behavior without actually trying to change self.

All that said. Shop around for a good therapist, don't just stick with the first one you come upon. I would suggest seeking one out that's your gender.

Also, $150 per session is normal. $250 is ridiculous.

You have no reason to justify the way you're treated, but do it anyway out of a defensive reflex. It's not healthy anon, and not everyone who is married has that problem despite what you may think.

I have tried both. LSD helps by letting me see myself from outside of myself and break down the walls of my mental prison. Problem is that as soon as it wears off the walls go right back up and I'm no better off. It provides temporary relief but that's it. Ketamine just got me high, no real benefit

They swear by Scientology because they're in on the pyramid scheme.

Just like a democrat/republican swears by their party ideals because of their career and ambitions.

Or an abrahamic cultist swears by their cult to justify whatever it is they want to do. They want to take advantage of others? Their cult tells them the others are cattle and all nations are to belong to them. They wake up one morning and want to hurt people? Their abrahamic cult [DESERT MANUAL] tells them their violence is justified through this and that mental gymnastic.
