25505089 No.25505089 [Reply] [Original]

I keep seeing this meme that the graph test net was deflationary. Does anyone have proof?

I’ve done some napkin math on the claim. I’ll post below, the amount of queries the graph would need to be deflationary is pretty ridiculous.

>> No.25505248

>>25505089
Here’s my math (not accounting for 0.5% staking tax)

The inflation of GRT is 3% a year, or 300,000,000 GRT yearly. At current valuation that’s about $90M.

Only one percent of query fees get burnt, so for GRT to be deflationary that means that 90M must represent only ONE percent of query fees.

Which implies that yearly query fees are $9B. We’ve already seen the figure $0.00003 thrown around as the query fee, so to get $9B in total query fees you would need the following staggering amount:

300,000,000,000,000
Three hundred TRILLION queries

That’s how many the graph needs to be deflationary. Anyone want to correct my math?

Bro the fees are that low because it's a testnet, in the future fees will adapt way higher to match real market price. So GRT will go to >$10 because we can speculate on that.

All that aside, It's a bunk project anyway, it falls apart if you even do a minute of research.
Why charge for queries when Google provide it for free?

Bad FUD.
You retards don't get it because it's not a Google, it's a Graph of data. Retards.
Do Google provide indexed data of all networks/blockchains for free to you? Mate, I don't think so. It's just an IQ test, don't buy it, it's fine

>> No.25506718

>>25505873
Not even going into why The Graph has potential. Just going to debunk your arguments because it is so motherfucking retarded you might have gone negative IQ.
> Why charge for queries when Google provide it for free?
Retarded for two reasons. One: Google charges for queries after a certain number of requests. This is not a usable amount for businesses.
Two: Google does not query networks or blockchains.

> REST is still overwhelmingly popular and nobody really touches GraphQL, etc, etc, etc, etc
Saying it's shit because REST is still overwhelmingly more populair than GraphQL is by far the dumbest of the two arguments. GraphQL is better for a number of reasons:

> You can manage your resources better than with REST (REST retrieves an entire dataset versus requesting a specific dataset with GraphQL).
> Subscriptions versus polling. Sure, you can use stuff like REST Hooks, but again this adds another layer of complexity, and in the end it's faux subscription that simulates an actual subscription.
> Readability. It writes it's own docs, versus having to use shit like OpenAPI/swagger as an aditional layer.

LMAO, imagine someone making this argument when SOAP was still overwhelmingly more populair than REST. From a devs perspective this is the most retarded thing you've said.

does the fact that staking is probably more incentivized here than on any other coin make a difference when thinking about supply? Even if the thing turns into a stablecoin, the fact that you have a sub-market within it that you can speculate on makes me think that almost all supply will be staked 100% of the time.

You're literally retarded or paid shill it's only deflationary if they get enough query reques and I doubt they could do it in first year or two. Price will go to 5-10 cents in 6 months when tards like you start selling and team will do nothing so project is doomed.

Someone using numbers out of his ass
The 3% is actually now 30,000,000 yearly GRT not 300,000,000

Also straight from the thegraph.com blog:
As described in The Graph GRT Token Economics post, new GRT will be issued as indexing rewards to Indexers in The Graph Network. ((The new issuance rate will start at 3% annually and is subject to future technical governance.)) look at what is said here, IT IS SUBJECT TO TECHNICAL GOVERNANCE. GRT holders get to vote what the inflation rate will be in future

>> No.25510374

>>25510296

>> No.25510423

>>25510047
It's just fud with twisted facts to make it look like something worthwhile, the query fees will be decided by indexers and someone just threw a number and now it's fact among the fudders, it could be $0.003-0.00003 for all we know, but do you think indexers and everyone involved will be doing this shit for essentially free? Its got a built in market place to decide the price they see fit for query fees

>> No.25510517

>>25510386
>>25510374
Yes and yes and query fees are going to be determined by indexers, not by graph team, so for all we know it could be 1$ per query(which is obviously not going to be the case, but simply to highlight the fact that it's an open marketplace where indexers decide the price)

>> No.25510531

>>25510423
They’ll make it worth their effort, and that’s it. There’s no incentive to moon the token for YOU.

The only incentives are to keep people using graph and keep whales happy with the rewards. They would never vote themselves lower inflation
