it calculates the difference between the locked price and current price. if your price is higher it just gives you the higher price per coin, otherwise you lose money.
example

if you lock in at 18k but the price is 3k you get 18k for each coin you release.

if you lock in at 18k but the price is 34k you lose 16k for each coin you release.. basically you are going to get about 2k per coin if you unlock now.
