And where are you guys getting this?

I constantly see 22 year olds on here saying they’ve got 80k or whatever saved up. I’m 25 and have 47k saved up, but I’ve been living at home for the past year and I’ve saved 95% of what I’ve earned from work (55k salary, don’t laugh).

I’m looking at rent prices and the cost of living and I’m struggling to understand how you can have ANY money left over after you pay rent + utilities + phone bill + car insurance (plus a car payment) + student loans + food + random items. I’d save like 500 a month on my current salary.

What am I missing?

By not having to spend money on those items or minimal at best.

Larps and losers living at home for the most part. Some are artists that did get great jobs out of college and their autism caused them to be hyper sensitive to their finances. They’re based everyone else is a faggot that has never touched a vagina or had friends.

Stay with your parents till you are 32 at least. invest 50% or more in a growth fund like (25%) ARK and (25%) BTC. Rest you save as some emergency cash. Hopefully you can save at least $1000 each month.

I was fresh off the boat 4 years ago. Spent 2 years without a car and trust me - you do not need a car. Just uber for groceries every week. At some cost of your time find out options for carpool or public transport options for your work. Trust me you will save upwards of $500 each month. I have a car now but I spend upwards of 3 times I used to spend on transport. Car payment + car insurance + gas + maintainance + fix anything that goes wrong. - Adds up homie. Cars are the biggest scam.

I'm worth around $175k. That's roughly 75% crypto, 17% retirement accounts and 8% cash. retirement accounts are passively taken out of my paycheck so i don't notice, crypto i accumulated by working a side job during 2018-2019 and putting in around $1k/month. I will always recommend military as an “easy way out” of a shitty situation, provided that you do your research beforehand and not sign up for something stupid like Army infantry or Air Force Security Forces. Your school is paid for, you will likely gain some sort of security clearance, multiple skill sets, travel, friends, etc. I’m leaving to become a civilian again as IMO promoting in the enlisted ranks is not worth it if you can make 6 figures doing the same shit as a civilian, but without the headache of supervising the junior enlisted and dealing with other military BS. As an officer, you will make way more $$$ but the trade off is you will be held to a higher standard, and will always be expected to lead and “set the example.” Also officers can screw up their careers much easier, whereas enlisted can get away with quite a bit. I think I'm in a pretty good situation right now being as I live at home rent free and WFH for a fairly comfy job, but I think doing 4 years can set me apart going forward. My grandad did AF and my dad did navy. Only difference is I imagine it was their best and only option at their respective time (grandad died when dad was 9 so idk, but dad joined at 17). I think going in from a bit more advantageous position and a bit older could help and just overall improve my life. I estimate of I join at 26 I'll already have $100k+ meet worth, then 4 years of free living\getting paid in military I'll be coming out around 30 yo with potentially $300k net worth and a higher earning potential. Next few years will help determine, but sitting in my room at home for 23 hours a day will get old eventually. Best of luck on your journey and happy New year.

the people not actually larping are lucky enough to live at home and not have to pay for themselves. furthermore, they might have made some gambles that paid off.

the way to get ahead if you're young is to get a job that offers a 401k and to max out your contributions. even if the market did nothing for 10 years, you'd end up saving about $200k. i think not understanding pre-tax benefits is one of the biggest ways to miss out on a lot of wealth in your 20s.

also, the reality is that we are in literally the longest running bull market in history. it's made a lot of people money with little effort.

Reading this thread as a European makes me sick to my stomach. Or the dollar is facing hyper inflation or Europe is just a shit place or I'm poor. How can you guys save so much money? In a good year I can do like 15k and you are 30 with 100k+. That would take me 7 years of living frugally at least. And I can't move out because then you are basically set back another 10 years.

NL here, 26yo. Working as software engineer. Living with parents making around 2.5k net, 30k in savings, ~25k non-liquid assets not generating income and about 150k in btc which I'm not going to touch until it can buy a house (200k ish).

>> No.25449965

Yea, interviews are kinda fucked and most experience you have with actual dev work won't translate to getting a job there.

Only way to get in is to game the system and spend most of your time solving dumb algorithm problems they are going to ask you. If you get lucky you might get exact questions you've solved before during your actual interview loop. Most of the time the questions they ask will be similar to one you solved before, so mostly just depends on how much time you put in to study

That's a blatant lie also , the day to day american has an emergency fund of 0$ , the statistics said this ages ago. Most americans live paycheck to paycheck and have a few hundred bucks if lucky in their bank accounts. The paychecks are big but so are the expenses and TAXES that's what most of the people don't understand , tell me how much would a 1 story or 2 story house with 800 mp2 of land would cost you where you live and tell me if it's achievable.

I'm pretty sure it's over 1.5 mil, add to that 1-2 kids and hot wife you have to maintain and 2 GOOD cars + expenses maybe a few trips a year in some great locations and keep adding to that day to day emergency stuff and see where that nets you.

Europe has it even worse if you can believe it.

Capital cities in Euro countries also have insanely priced houses and apartments but the salaries are even lower than in the USA

In Amsterdam a nice apartment can cost 1.5 million euros but the average salary is like 40-50k a year and the taxes are higher than in the US

In the USA you have cities like idk Austin where you can still get a house for like 700k but it’s easy to find jobs that pay 2x as much as in London or Amsterdam.

I rent a 500sqft shithole here in London that would cost 550k to buy.

A small 3 bedroom house would be 1.5m

It’s impossible to buy, houses here are only bought by boomers who already have house equity.
