Now is there any way that XRP being deemed a security could be good? the truth is that there was always much more value in XRP/Ripple, but no one pumped it because of the uncertainty inherent to having all the crazy shit going on in the world? So Ripple being claimed solely responsible for XRP although not the "owners" of the coin.... they did create it and are benefitting from the gray area in the financial space they are positioned.

Wouldn't this mean most DeFi will never become "official" until you're using McDeFi, even if its ala XRPL/Flare.....? Thus XRP/Ripple is basically the first sort of thing, having s coin that is theirs but really is actually not theirs and public and have it all be legal.

Being honest with you? If it ends up being a security, it cannot be used for the foreign exchange purposes it was made to be since securities have different types of regulatory expectations attached to them. Some people see that it can still turn out to be a good thing, but Ripple isn't fighting this tooth and nail for no good reason.

Now to be honest with you, I do not see a good pathway for the SEC to win this lawsuit on their behalf (it's a security), because they have to prove XRPL will cease to exist, and the currency will go to 0, if Ripple ceases to exist.

When you hold an actual security, like Apple stock, you can reasonably expect that the stock will go to 0 if Apple ceases to exist, because the price action of Apple's securities are solely impacted by its management and its actions.

When Flare occurred, this dispelled any argument the SEC could have that Ripple is the one solely responsible for the price actions, as near the Flare airdrop the price triplicated without the involvement of Ripple as a company.

This means that it's nigh impossible for the SEC to claim the currency will disappear and/or it solely relies on Ripple to increase in price.

This is why the price is at 21 cents after all of this show, and not at less than a penny.

In case you're ever asked to hand away your crypto if it is discovered you have a ledger, you can have just a little bit on it and give it to the criminal while having most of the funds on the bithomp wallet.

Remember, the bithomp method works exactly the same as the ledger method, where your private keys are completely offline. You sign the transaction offline, and simply "broadcast" the transaction online. This is totally safe and done in electrum as it does not expose your private keys whatsoever.

You can but there are a few things to consider
1 - Ledger's randomly generated seed that you're using may not be entirely "random" and they may have ways to generate wallets. You simply cannot completely trust the way they generate the ledger
2 - The best way to mitigate this, is to generate your own per advice here >>2534150 (using keypass or dice method to generate entropy) and generate your own seed, and attach your own seed to the ledger

This will allow your seed to be compatible with bithomp in case you lose your ledger.

But note the advice above. I am definitely having a ledger but for some spare funds or for convenience funds.

The main one is fully airgapped away and, let's say, "with many backups and out of sight".

I paid $75 on my ledger, but who knows if I will not just throw it away after it moons...I'd prefer if no one ever knew I dealt with crypto.

But if you still trust ledger, and you're comfortable with all of the above, even letting them generate your own seed, then do what you feel it's best and appropriate.

Where do you expect we would receive DFLR/YFLR?

It’s going back a good few hundred XSGs now but I’ve historically been very dismissive of anything defi. I’m slowly changing that view on the basis of what fellow schizos have been saying, but I have to say: all of the above really speaks to my bearishness on defi. It’ll never be mainstream until simple, easy UI’s, apps, sites, etc., make access and use straightforward.

Also: I have tried to, and will continue to, DMOR - but there appears to be an assumption of a basic familiarity with mining, etc., and the terminology used is really throwing me (it’s all words and concepts I’m intimately familiar with, but said and used in a completely different way that I’ve seen before), so I’m hoping some basic guidance will help direct me in the right way.

(1) R3 exists. They’re a separate company and they use XRP I’m certain of their solutions, so they affect the price independently of Ripple.
(2) as I posted last night: it’s going to be nigh-on impossible for the SEC to sanction Ripple for anything done post 2015. Everything after that point was them acting in accordance with regulatory guidance (the ONLY regulatory guidance at the time), as it was in May 2015 where their settlement with FINCEN had them treat XRP as a currency. Absent a court order or superseding regulatory guidance, Ripple were compelled to follow the guidance.

Given the above (and (2) in particular), I don’t think Flare is relevant because the SEC will be unable to get them on anything that happened in the last 5 years (long before flare).

** the above point 2 is based on the publicly available information on the FINCEN settlement. It may be that there are elements we are unaware of that counter the argument, but I’ve got to work with what we’ve got.
