>> No.25306738

>>25306659
yeah.... given that the amount compounds faster than your paying it off and say it doubles, the income tax is going to slaughter you.
I think for most people wanting to do FIRE and stuff brokerage accoutns make a lot more sense with long term cap gains rates. but idk if u start investing the difference and u start making bank in a brokerage i bet the income based repayment will go up. its just designed to make u loose no matter what. i think i calculated the payoff was if u owed more than 320k right after school using a little excel simulation based on the interest rates i had for my HEAL loans

i mean from my perspective, all of the ways you go to school and get out with a good job making bank are fucking horrible. you have to grind through some of the most unimaginable adversity and preserver in the most competitive of environments. thats because if it wasnt competitive, then everyone else would go that way and over saturate it.
so to some respect boomers are right when they shit talk work ethic. a lot of people get out of school with no job prospects because they took an easy way out in college.
cant get into chemical engineering? how about climate science?
but no kids put their foot down when they dont get into their majors and say well this isnt worth it no more later. the school has you by the balls. they know u gotta graduate. sucks to be you.

>> No.25308027

>>25307823
No one - including myself - is arguing that boomers are wrong when they say that having a good work ethic is essential.
What younger people bristle at is the boomers sanctimoniously giving out advice (that many of them didn't adhere to themselves), then turning around and sabotaging everything so that anyone following that advice would be hard pressed to achieve the results that were promised. THEN after doing that, the boomers still had the gall to mock and shit on their children and other younger people for being stupid enough to follow their advice in first place with an "haha well that's what you get for listening to someone like me sucks to be you i guess" attitude

If boomers would just have just a shred of fucking humility and admit they gave bad advice and ultimately made things harder for everyone else, then I honestly think most young people who are struggling could forgive and begin trying their to adjust to the hand they've been dealt, but boomer hubris so profound and insultingly obtuse I think a lot of people get so wound up in the frustration of it that it becomes paralyzing to a degree.

i hope we start to reign in social security. i was really hoping that trumps EO on haulting SSI payroll tax would have started a discussion of what the fuck are we doing. why are they getting our money under a system that is designed to be bankrupt by the time we go to take our checks out

I’m 23 and have 100k in an investment portfolio (all that I’ve earned myself), and 15kish in checking and savings from working n stonks, I’m tempted to put it all into crypto when the next crash hits

I think my worst fear is making it by working too hard and achieving too much to the point where people will assume I didn’t earn it all. Like my 90 hour work weeks didn’t happen. Like I didn’t grow up in the ghettos

I think I’d snap and murder someone desu, like I could care less what names you call me but if someone discredited all of my effort I’d go rape mode on em

>>25308478
>BUT I PAID INTO THE SYSTEM MY WHOLE LIFE FUCK EVERYONE ELSE IT'S MY MONEY
That is the boilerplate response you will get from most boomers and it's the reason social security reform/ending it won't even begin to be seriously discussed until every last boomer is dead and several generations have passed.

Everybody else understands by now that SSI is bullshit and assuming anybody even gets anything by the time they're eligible the devaluing of our currency will render any payouts worthless anyway. As of right now it's just another fucking tax to extort out of working people which is why I'm hopeful that when the boomers are finally gone people will be less hesitant to do away with the SSI system altogether because they're not emotionally wedded to the expectation of "receiving" something valuable that they are "owed"

For now, boomers can still vote so SSI is untouchable for the time being. Voluntarily giving it up as a generous show of good faith to future generations would be an incredible act of redemption of the part of their generation but we know that the boomers would never do such a thing of their own accord. They're far too selfish for that - even ones who can admit that SSI is a scam and don't expect to benefit from it themselves.

Basically all the zoomers get is this. Use your body and get paid ok, work minimum wage, or be the .01% top goy to grind through thousands of asians and other affirmative action to get a decent paying white collar job.
Or work for yourself and play the system to your advantage. Copy the rich people. Stop being poor. Stop buying brand name for pussy. Fuckin idiots.
