25255157 No.25255157 [Reply] [Original]

The Canadian Dollar is the closest out of all the first-world nations to triggering massive hyperinflation.

Canada sold all their gold to China.

Now they are revoking the legal tender status of their own national currency.

Does the average Canadian citizen even realize what is happening?

>Now they are revoking the legal tender status of their own national currency.
You think you should be able to buy shit at the store with a ha'penny? People haven't used 1, 2, 25(?) Or anything higher than 100 in transactions in years. Only makes sense to eventually remove it from circulation.

You're not wrong about hyperinflation, Canada just quadrupled it's money supply. But don't think that cause we're removing the 1 dollar bill from circulation that we have issues with a 1 dollar denomination (looney)

These bills are mostly collectors items and have not been printed or circulated for decades. This is mostly a move by the Bank of Canada to exert the control they have over people's money purely because they can.
The average Canadian doesn't realize how much power the Bank of Canada has or what's happening to the Canadian Dollar, they've just been taught (like the inhabitants of most Western Nations) to not care about these sorts of things

they fucked up with too many gibs/state and too little appeasement to the mutts, when they started to run out of money for gibs they went for denbts which couldn't really be repaid so they started to do the latin american default playbook, however international markets where sanctioned out of their reach so they had to resort to extra hard money printing, every so often they would swiftly take random bills out of circulation in a vain attempt to control hyperinflation
most countries start to do that when they need to keep the money printer on with inflation already in the hyper stage or almost in that stage, i'd guess with mmt in vogue they will always skip the denbts part and go straight to the tax/confiscation part to control inflation and bring back currency faith

If the general public isn't using those denominations much already, then there's no reason to make an issue out of it either way.
Just don't print new notes of them and have commercial banks turn the existing notes in to the central bank when they get deposited, just like what they do with paper money that gets slightly damaged or whatever. There's no reason to formally declare them not legal tender like this. It makes the government look like weird fuckups who mess around with your wallet for no good reason.

I'm a burger, so I can't really understand much of what's going on in Canada from an economic standpoint. I know it's meme'd that leaves are struggling, but when pic related is an actual thing, it isn't just a meme.

I know the money printing is absurd, but how long has this been a thing? Can literally all of this be pinned on Trudeau and his policies? Grocery store prices and overall inflated prices on every possible good and commodity is usually the result of decades worth of atrocious economic action, and would probably take at least ten years to dig out of. America recovering after the great depression took that long, plus a war (which isn't economically possible in this generation). It will probably take a younger group of people pissed off enough to get involved with politics to right the ship, and that alone is going to take time for someone (or some group) of economic minded leaders to rise through the ranks.

This is not true, inflation in Canada is very muted right now. Consistently below the 2% target despite the BoC doing all it can (QE, 0% overnight rate, forward guidance, etc.)

We're not on the gold standard anymore, why would the government need it?

If you're suggesting we should have made monetary conditions tighter or left them as they were then explain why this wouldn't lead to deflation or why deflation wouldn't be the absolutely terrible thing that almost every economist says it is insofar as it would cause an even bigger economic contraction than what we're facing now

If you have deflation then it decreases aggregate demand because people are incentivized to hold off purchases and wait. It also encourages firms to decrease production of whatever goods they think won't increase in price to try to maximize production. This hurts businesses because sales drop so they hire fewer people or even lay people off which causes a contraction and it spirals.
Experience and data shows that close to but slightly below an average of 2% annual inflation is enough to encourage spending. Inflation as a whole isn't as problematic as uneven inflation, like if everyone's salary grew by 2% then it wouldn't matter if prices all grew by 2% the problem is when the 2% average is because non-essential things like tvs, radios, etc. became cheaper but this was balanced out by food, housing, energy, etc.

The *hyperinflation* actually already occurred this year in assets and real estate. Which is conveniently not in the CPIs or the normies might revolt. We are talking 20%-100%+. The FED put WORKED.
Real estate and assets will now continue to inflate at a faster pace than the salaries of your most productive people due to all of the money that was printed. We are talking 15%+ per year, it's all baked in.
