Welcome to XMR General, dedicated to the discussion of the world's leading privacy-coin!
Because Monero is secure, low-fee, and borderless, people can easily send money despite corrupt and broken governments or banks. This provides economic empowerment of individuals in oppressive countries or depressed economies.
Private financial history protects consumers and companies from price manipulation, supply chain exploitation, economic discrimination, or the like. Monero is the only cryptocurrency that has the features to serve as completely fungible, decentralized, electronic cash.

If you're new, feel free to ask any questions you like and a Monero Chad will be with you shortly.

No coin history means you do not have to worry about coin taint. Monero is digital cash.
Safety of knowing that nobody knows how much Monero you have unless you provide a view key.
Long term scaling solutions (dynamic block size, dynamic fees, tail emission).
Long term organic growth in adoption.
Dark net adoption which is a parallel to how Bitcoin first had widespread use.
A community that supports hard forks and therefore improving the protocol instead of pushing a dinosaur forward.
Built in privacy meaning that even with atrocious opsec your transactions are private and secure. Against dragnet surveillance, Monero is about as perfect as it gets.
Regulations will continuously push people towards privacy. Data leaks will continuously push people towards privacy. Monero is the king of privacy in the crypto world and it will only grow from here.
Atomic swaps.
Undervalued BTC ratio, which will appreciate during the bull run.

In 2017 XMR was interesting in that it hit ATH very close to when BTC did, as opposed to a few months later with the rest of the Altseason. You expecting the same again?

>>25132887
>In 2017 XMR was interesting in that it hit ATH very close to when BTC did, as opposed to a few months later with the rest of the Altseason. You expecting the same again?
Honestly no, I don't. Monero is pumping separate from the entire crypto market if you haven't noticed. We dump less than other cryptos and we pump less than other cryptos during alt rallies. I wouldn't be surprised if we pump along with Bitcoin and then decouple at some point and then do our own thing. Monero has a mind of its own lately and this is why it is so exciting.
We still have some major pumps coming in the future, such as more exchange listings, aforementioned regulations or privacy leaks, and endorsements from big name players.
Until then, we are just stacking and staying comfy to be honest.

>> No.25133193

>>25133096
thanks for laying out the state of the game. do you have any idea of timeframe for these pumps?
any good resources I can learn more?

>> No.25133552

>>25133193
What I have noticed lately is that Monero tends to pump when Bitcoin is stagnant or consolidating in a region.
The cycle is like this: Bitcoin pumps and everything bleeds, then the shitcoin alts rally (with Monero going slow and steady instead of gaining some ridiculous percentage). Then Bitcoin consolidates and the alts bleed most of their gains. And then Monero pumps. While moonboys are distracted by number go up in the short term, they don't realize that Monero has been a steady performer the entire year, with its gains in USD comparable to Bitcoin. And this is notwithstanding our very undervalued ratio that we currently have which will correct in the long term.
We know that whales influence trading, so removing all the noise, it appears that whales are trading shitcoin alts for profits and then dumping that into Monero (and Bitcoin/Ethereum as well). They use sell walls to nuke the Bitcoin ratio and profit off of the moonboys pumping bags of shitcoins.
This game can only go on for so long, however. The pent up demand will inevitably explode and then these traders will get hit pretty hard. It should also be noted that Monero is trading more on the USD pair as opposed to the Bitcoin pair. This is in line with how bullish our USD charts look compared to the Bitcoin ratio (and evidence of decoupling). Because Monero has actual demand outside of speculation, it will continue to drive the USD value upwards, so if Bitcoin does correct, Monero won't be as effected (thought it still will be).
>any good resources I can learn more?
lurk the generals and check the charts every day. We could see a marketwide dump literally today lol but I am confident that Monero won't dump as hard as some of these shitcoins because of actual demand for use.

For example when I pay for porn or some other shady stuff, or do a lot of deposits into betting websites
Things that don't look in my bank statement
Your banker sees all your transactions so if you are a regular at the bank (as a small business I am) I have different bank accounts for different purposes
Monero really solves a lot of issues in that way

Also it's cross-border transactions that is safe, secure and fast
Literally better than SWIFT / Wire transfers in every regard and better than Bitcoin

A lot of reasons to like Monero

Monero seems like one of the few trustworthy daytraders. Anyone got good target plans? Seems like getting in at 150$ and selling 158$ would pay off indefinitely, did that once today. Sooner or later i'm going all in and staying. Made 1300$ daytrading in the last week. I know it's largely a meme, I don't recommend it but XMR treats all traders well apparently.

There aren’t any drawbacks for using kyc if you don’t care that the government knows you are buying crypto. If that’s a problem then you will need to look for non kyc options.
Bisq is p2p however you will need to buy Bitcoin first but it is non kyc so that’s nice.

is XMR really untraceable?
if so I really don't understand the point of BTC
why not just buy gold for wealth storage and XMR for daily transactions?

there's no way I'm storing large amounts of wealth on a public ledger, if the government knows you own something they will come after you sooner or later
that's why I like to store wealth in gold, there are literally zero records on the gold that I own and it's very easy to hide millions of dollars in a tiny stash

bought .5 BTC back in 2015 and I still hold .36 BTC, should I convert it into XMR?

crypto regulations are spreading across the globe like wildfire and xmr/btc is trading at a near all time low. Enough said.

>if so I really don't understand the point of BTC
it's the most liquid and most supported crypto so therefore it is the most powerful. As another anon said, think of Bitcoin as "land" because there is a finite supply of it. You are correct though that for transactions it is pretty awful terrible. Monero is far more like digital cash.
>bought .5 BTC back in 2015 and I still hold .36 BTC, should I convert it into XMR?
up to you anon, however the btc ratio is historically low for xmr. Look at xmr's btc ratio during the last bull run..
>>25156611
>won't people be able to see that I've done an 'atomic swap' into XMR?
no. Bitcoin and Monero don't share the same blockchain.
An observer would one person send their bitcoin to another Bitcoin address. That's it. They would have no way of knowing what you transacted the Bitcoin for Monero. It would just look like you sending Bitcoin to somebody else.

that's pretty cool
so maybe keep some BTC for.. hopefully future price stability in crypto, use XMR for daily digital transactions and gold for large wealth storage and large acquisitions
