I make $65k in one of the poorest, most absolute shithole cities in America. I live outside of it and my rent is $800. I also have to work significantly less hard and fewer hours than most of my peers in this career field. Good benefits and a ridiculous amount of no questions asked PTO. All because it's state funded. And the place that I work is a huge drain on tax payer money.

Assuming you work 40 hours a week, that's about 800 bucks a week, aka 3200 a month. Even after rent you have 2200 left.

Make about the same, but rent is $800. Manage to save like $400 a month. Those 2 months with an extra paycheck are nice. It's a struggle for sure. I don't really go out for drinks or do much, and cook cheap food except take out maybe 2 meals a week, and some booze on weekends. Currently enrolled in some online coding program so I can try to get a something at like at least $60k/yearly
