Welcome to XMR General, dedicated to the discussion of the world's leading privacy-coin!
Because Monero is secure, low-fee, and borderless, people can easily send money despite corrupt and broken governments or banks. This provides economic empowerment of individuals in oppressive countries or depressed economies.
Private financial history protects consumers and companies from price manipulation, supply chain exploitation, economic discrimination, or the like. Monero is the only cryptocurrency that has the features to serve as completely fungible, decentralized, electronic cash.

If you're new, feel free to ask any questions you like and a Monero Chad will be with you shortly.

because this is a currency and not a zoomer startup, (((partnerships))) are just empty marketing phrases to pump up the scams /biz/ shills. does BTC have many partnerships? At the end of the day, I tried to get rich and got burned. That being said, other than XMR and BTC, are there any coins/communities that have solid ideals/virtues? I can't think of any, or maybe I am just unaware. At least if I lose money on something I believe in it was for a cause instead of a stupid browser plugin token that isn't needed.

ETH was originally a good project but nowadays is only used for defi scams and the market is cucked, also the transaction fees are killing it.

RaiBlocks was also originally good but the developers are too incompetent to do anything with it so it's dying.

I always liked stellar but never bought any because I think the token distribution is a bit corrupt.

Nothing else comes to mind honestly, most of the top 15 are just outright scams except: LTC, BCH, BTC, and ETH, but I don't see too much potential for those in the future.

Poorfag here, I'm considering buying about 10-15 XMR but have some questions about this project because till now I basically only though about that as cheaper btc for dark web transactions that is highly disliked by govs and media.
I heard that IRS is paying for breaking Monero, how possible is that according to growth of quantum computers technology in near future and is this same possibility as breaking Bitcoin or other PoW cryptocurrencies?
Is XMR staying PoW forever so will get possible new amount of miners after eth goes PoS? Would that make price grow and advance development of this project?
What if every crypto trading platform delist XMR cause of global goverments crypto legislations, where could I buy something or exchange for FIAT/other cryptocurrencies confidentially and safe then?
If I buy on binance and send to my some kind of desktop wallet I'm non trackable or I need to transfer it through some shady, risky stuff?

Monero’s privacy tech is all about obfuscation and plausible deniability. To keel things short: the only way to loosely trace monero is through metadata because of the way ring signatures work, as well as how stealth addresses prevent your wallet from being looked up.
Monero will always stay POW, because it is tried and true and it is capitalism. To make things even better, it is asic resistant, meaning anybody with a cpu can mine. Most of us think POS is a meme because it is mostly is about pumping bags to get staking rewards, which in turn only benefits whales who will corner the network. Pow guarantees that anybody can make a calculated investment which in turn will lead to long term rewards.
Monero will never be banned on every exchange, but if it does happen we will have atomic swaps.
If you send monero to yourself off of an exchange the exchange will know you sent monero at a certain time but that’s it. Withdrawing monero from an exchange is like withdrawing cash from an atm.

Serious question, no doubt short term XMR is going to be a big winner over LTC, but long term do we think LTC could eventually actually become the silver to BTCs gold? They both are competing to be the default “transactional” crypto.

I think LTC has a real shot of re-flippening XMR long term because:

>rock solid oldfag coin with perfect track record (no ICO not a security as well)
>available to buy and sell essentially wherever BTC is
>fast and cheap transactions, something you could actually use to buy things in a a store, they have even come out with an LTC debit card
>blockchain is tiny especially compared to what monero will be (all “dummy” transactions on Monero have to go onto the chain as if they were real, currently 11 per real one)
>once mimble wimble is implemented LTC could potentially have an even great anonymity set than Monero, even though it is opt-in due to LTCs cap and volume.
>assuming anonymity sets to be equal Mimble Wimble is a far superior privacy tech than ring signatures. Rings are essentially just mixers where each transaction has 12 (currently) possible senders, one of which is the real one, this means that there are very real probabilistic attacks even today that while you never could get say a conviction based on them, they will be more than adequate for narrowing the Search window for an individual to a small enough number that investigating each potential suspect is economically feasible. Mimble Wimble gives you complete anonymity within the set of users, so once the AS of a MW coin actually starts approaching XMR there is going to be less and less reason to use XMR.

Also if we are honest Monero is a mess from a UX side, and while it’s sick that it’s probably the single most decentralized crypto, unless the GUI becomes something an actual human can use easily it’s not going to get mainstream adoption.

If you are someone with no knowledge you would just select the simple version and instantly get access, and even if you didn't know much tech-wise but wanted to be more private; simply wait till the blockchain syncs and then use like normal.

Nigger stop spamming lite coin in these generals. It’s a surveillance coin and they are offering optional privacy. It doesn’t solve the million privacy issues that they have with a transparent ledger and public wallet addresses. People who want privacy will pick monero over litecoin 100 times out of a 100
Litecoin will also never dethrone btc. You are unironically a retard for even suggesting that.
Also dumbing down moneros privacy to just ring signatures (and even then misunderstanding how decoys work) shows how little you understand how monero works. We also have ring ct and stealth addresses.
Seriously tho neck yourself for even attempting to shill litecoin as a privacy solution. I’m embarrassed for you.

People who talk about banning monero.

Has the government banned Tor?
Has it banned torrents?
Has it banned i2p?
Has it banned encryption?
Did they ban apple iphone sales or did they try to crack it?

Basically banning monero isn't the threat, it's breaking their encryption, which I am confident isn't even close to being a threat yet. If and when a large threat is posed I am confident that the monero devs + community will rise to the occasion and patch it. Just look at the response to the recent sybil attacks, the problem was immediately figured out and there is a fix. Community members are stepping up and downloading the blockchain just to run honest nodes to mitigate the effect of the attack. The transactions per month are at ATH. All this even though we're bottomed out on xmr/btc. If you aren't in monero right now you dun goofed.

Monero is a privacy coin, and as such you should follow good privacy measures for such a good little coin!
first create a "dummy" monero wallet, this will be where you receive your swapped XMR from the BTC/XMR swap.
>Buy BTC on coinbase
>send to BTC/XMR swap (not exchange) and receive it in your dummy wallet
>send XMR from dummy wallet to real wallet (these coins will be completely anonymous)

your real wallet can be created in multiple ways with varying levels of schizo privacy measures. Either just use windows with the Monero wallet GUI for least privacy or....
grab a thumbdrive with ubuntu installed, boot it into a live cd and download the monero wallet CLI and create a wallet. Write down the seed phrase and store the address, seed, and view keys to your usb and encrypt them with gpg. Send the XMR from your dummy wallet to the wallet you just created and store your USB somewhere safe.

But wait there's more! You can't buy with fiat unless you do a wire transfer.

KYC is a pain in the dick. I made an account with Binance back in November, took them 14 days to verify me.

the 21 hours is downloading the entire blockchain.
to get around this, connect to a remote node. This will scan the blockchain with your private key.

Ahhhhh I found a remote note and it's up and working finally. Now I guess it's time to swap some BTC for it.

Daemons are nodes. If you download the entire blockchain you can run a daemon, meaning other anons can connect to you who aren't running nodes.
By connecting remotely, you sacrifice some privacy elements (namely, your IP address will appear in the node you are connecting to) however, none of your transaction detail can be seen by the node operator.

the reward is you help your fellow monero-chad's have good nodes to use their best coin on.

I like the project. I've been studying it for a few hours, and this thread has been helpful. I'm about to buy 3 XMR. It's all I can afford until midnight when I get paid.

depends how deep you want to go, for coming soon TM developments look into atomic swaps and the newly implemented bulletproofs+.

Another cool research project into the future of quantum computing and monero traceability/ring signatures is quite technical but interesting if you wanted to look:

None except supporting the network. You can get rewards for mining however (you don’t need to download the blockchain you do that).

All anons are welcome. Also you don't have to tell us how much you have, it's completely private, which is one reason for the "unknown amount" meme
