jack daniels is ok, just don't fucking buy the honey version. that is a joke to bourbon culture and only uncultured whores would drink that so they can signal sex mode at parties

Jameson, imported from Ireland, Irish Whiskey is the Champagne of Ireland and can only be made there in copper pot stills. Upon opening the bottle its nearly as smooth as a 50 or 80 dollar bottle but costs like 30$, less in the US I imagine. Or I mean you could dump like 100 on Glenfiddich when you could get 3 bottles of Jameson.

The trick is to drink it fast, they dont use corked bottles which means the oxygen proceeds to slowly react with the alcohol, making the harsh taste people dont appreciate. First sips the best, or shot, or w.e, I just take glugs of it.

I got a question. Who the fuck is drinking this peated scottish whiskey that tastes like an ashtray dumped in a bums pocket. Peat moss flavoring in whiskey, TF who does that. I got one of those and could barely finish it. Dont be too adventurous if you arent a big rich flavor guy.

>> No.24987640

For most alcohols, I'd recommend starting with cheaper brands to understand "how to taste them" instead of jumping straight into the high-end stuff that will just taste like every other whiskey because you haven't trained yourself to know the differences. People shit on wine a lot for similar reasons (thinking that it all tastes the same, or that wine experts are just bullshitting) but the highest-level sommeliers can consistently determine the grape variety, the geographic region it was grown from, or the approximate year it was made from nothing other than taste. That kind of knowledge is real and requires hundreds of hours of study in the making of that drink and the historical, chemical, and cultural elements surrounding the creation of that drink.

>> No.24987781

I love the single barrel and barrel proof Jack Daniels but I also love old no. 7. It's what I drank in bars when I was younger and I acquired a taste for it. I am aware it tastes like paint thinner

Man, I can tell you a thousand different quality whiskeys under $100. Scotch has a cereal taste and it's not everyones thing when they're used to bourbon so I'm gonna say go with a bourbon, HOWEVER if you think a rye would suit you, Willett Family Reserve is fucking amazing and it's barrel proof

I'm also a big fan of the Willet Pot Still bourbon but it's a very divisive bourbon. It has a more delicate mouthfeel and can easily be called """smooth""". It's got a distinct spice to it and some people hate it.

Get a bottle of Blanton's if you can for under $70. It's recognizable. Whoever you're drinking with is likely to appreciate

otherwise if you wanna talk more about what you like and don't like, I'm a pretty high level tater and I can tell you more

How about a bottle of Elijah Craig Barrel Proof
