24929471 No.24929471 [Reply] [Original]

I'm in my late 20s, single and no dependents, and I want to restart my life in NYC. I have a solid 'tech' job and finances going for me, and I wouldn't relocate unless I had a job lined up. People are saying NYC is dead and won't come back cause of the pandemic, and that people are spilling out, but I'm looking at this as an opportunity to participate in 'building it back up' and not having as much competition in the job market. Everyone goes right so I go left type of deal.

Is this idea retarded?

Yes because these lockdowns will continue and the nightlife will continue to die off and move elsewhere. Moving to a state with a red governor or a governor who wont shut shit down would be the better move. Florida isn't shutting down so you could always move to Miami, but I think they are closing shit down in Miami due to them having a blue mayor.

>> No.24929779

New York was dying before the pandemic, its not that the business wasn't quite there it was that decades of neglect and poor maintenance to the city has left everything crumbling and at this point the cost to fix it all would be enormous. At this point your parasites eating away the beast heading to die, eat what you can for you'll need the strength to flee.

I feel like going there now is like buying BTC for a long term HODL in feb 2018. i.e. That shit is still in active, freefall decline

Wait for the inflection point at least.

I'm personally looking for a place that I think will hit exponential growth and be a fun place to live: saigon, vietnam.

Costs are low, women are slim and plentiful, walking streets exist, manufacturing is moving in, etc

I think everyone should live in NYC for at least 3-5 years but very few people should stay long term. It's not a good quality of life unless you're super wealthy, but it is a unique experience like no other and if you can make it there, you can make it anywhere, literally. I know a lot of people who moved to NYC excited to be there and couldn't hack it and left within a year or two. Everyone I know who has lived in NYC for a long period of time can figure out their life wherever they want. It's a good test of character.

I live in Manhattan currently, stayed through pretty much the whole pandemic and have been here since I came for college 8 years ago. The "NYC is dead" thing is a lot of hype imho. Obviously it makes for an enticing news story for it to look like the whole city's going chimpmode or whatever but my experience actually being here and walking around has been absolutely nothing like what you see on the news. And keep in mind that everyone claimed exactly the same thing after 9/11, like "who could possibly work in an office here when you could get bombed at any moment, everyone's gonna leave the whole market's gonna crash" and in reality that didn't happen at all. Yes, people are leaving, obviously the pandemic has caused a huge amount of uncertainty and volatility in people's lives so this is to be expected. There's a few ways I see this turning out:

1. Lots of people leave and don't come back anytime soon. Lots of offices go fully remote permanently. The people who left are those with the greatest amount of mobility, ie rich yuppies without family or community connections. We potentially see a crime spike in certain (ie nonwhite) neighborhoods--keep in mind nyc is not a monolith, this is avoidable if you can afford it. Rents are cheap and opportunities abound for someone like you.

2. The people who left trickle back in post-pandemic, and by 2022 things have "returned to normal". I think a lot of landlords are banking on this. I've been looking for a new apartment myself lately and I've been seeing a lot of deals for one, two, even three or four months "free" on a yearlong lease--what this means is that a place with 2200 monthly rent figures out to like 1800 a month over the course of a year, but then if you were to renew your lease they could increase it based on the laws for a $2200 apartment, if that makes sense.

>> No.24930446

Nyc is the easiest pussy on Earth. I lived there for five years then got over it and moved to LA. I lived as a broke chef in both cities and LA is tough because you need a car and bitches want to see your car before they fuck. But in NYC girls think you’re cool and fuckable just because you live in the city.

>> No.24930472

>>24930206
To me it just means survive and live a "normal" life. Most transplants don't survive, it's a very different atmosphere and it's HARD, if you're not used to it you're likely to quit because ultimately your perspective tells you it's not worth it. But it can be.

I lived in Manhattan ~11 years grew up in NY on Long Island. I got tired of it eventually but I wouldn't have traded the experience for anything.

>> No.24930478

>>24930433
So they're hoping that by this time next year the market's bounced back basically. This is still a good opportunity to get a good deal on a place this year, you just have to be willing to rethink your plans if they're right and try to gauge you next year.

3. The news is right, everything spirals into chaos, it's like nyc in the 70s/80s. First of all, I think this is the least likely option. Secondly, a crime increase looks a lot different in a society where everyone has smartphones, forensics are more advanced, and there's a camera on every corner. You may argue that the NYPD will be defunded or something but I think that blm bullshit over the summer was a flash in the pan. But besides all that, even in a full escape from new york scenario, the best possible person to be able to deal with that is a young able bodied single man. If you were asking me if it's a good idea to come here as a 18 year old girl, I'd be more cautious, but what the hell. And, say what you will about nyc in the 70s and 80s, but it also held tremendous opportunities for young people, and those who weathered it then have been seeing the benefits in the last two decades.

So idk, I mean, you only live once. I plan on staying for as long as I can.

My advice for you is to enroll in a cuny program or move to an Asian neighborhood. If you're Cantonese move to Flushing, if you're Fujianese move to Sunset Park, if you're Korean move to Fort Lee, NJ. You're much more likely to meet women of your ethnicity if you live in an ethnic neighborhood. There are many Asian women out there who refuse to racemix

See what California recently did. They decriminalized a ton of misdemeanors (e.g. disturbance of peace, resisting arrest, etc). New York City will soon do the same thing, and if you add decriminalization of a ton of "petty crimes" yo NYC's new law of getting rid of bail and releasing criminals back to the streets, crime will explode in NYC.

The "Broken Glass" theory was central to Giuliani and Koch's crime/policing reforms of the late 80's and 90's that made NYC into a safe and expensive metropolis. Basically the idea is that a city that lets all these tiny crimes happen (e.g. leave broken glasses, windows, and petty mugging to happen), leaves the "gate open" psychologically for more serious crimes to happen. Getting rid of the bail system and decriminalizing misdemeanors will be the antithesis of the successful Broken Glass police system.

We're going back to the grimy 70's NYC.

What do you mean "lock in"? The rent will increase every year (assuming the market allows it). According to the law, a rent-stabilized apartment can be increased by 1.5% each year (these are common) and there's no limit to increasing the rent on a non-stabilized apartment. But even with a rent-controlled apartment if you get one of those deals like I described, even though your rent for that year only worked out to 1800/month, the law considers the rent to be 2200/month, so it would be 1.5% of 2200, not 1800--that's how they get ya.

LA is overrun with homeless, violent criminals, many of whom are mentally diseased. They're fucking EVERYWHERE. At least in NYC the winter keeps 'em at bay. The busses were so filled with human scum I decided to walk everywhere but ended up getting physically attacked by crazy homeless people at least three occasions. I've seen them spit in random people's faces on the street. I've seen police raids downtown where they round 'em up for menacing metro riders.

The worst thing though, is how they squat in whatever little outdoor recreational space is available. Any public park is guaranteed to be overrun by homeless people sleeping or monopolizing park benches and tables all day, mean mugging anyone walking past.

Thinking back on my time in LA, it was like something out a dystopian action movie. It's not like the movies bros, it's fucking grim. There were some good times, but I'd happy never set foot within 250 miles of that shit hole ever again.

i am in my early 30s and i have lived in nyc my entire adult life, my entire network of successful people have all left and moved to florida. except for people who are forced to stay because of work, who are on the verge of killing themselves right now. nyc will eventually come back but this is going to be a long, dark winter and i strongly advise against moving there until it gets warmer, there is literally nothing to do, everything is closed, to even have a life there you need an existing social network to get invited to apartment parties

Somewhere in lower Manhattan probably. I lived in NYC and really enjoyed looking at peoples clothing while walking around everyday. Lots of cool little boutiques too. And I like that New Yorkers are more open minded to different and unique styles, like even wealthy people. So you won’t see your standard Gucci etc that you’ll see in wealthy areas of other major cities, people seem to take pride in their uniqueness here. There’s a certain open-mindedness that makes NYC what it is.

Aussie here, went to LA in 2016 during my trip to America. I thought "What the fuck?", I won't ever return. It's an overrated shit hole that's only popular because of Hollywood and everyone who hasn't travelled to America seems to get excited by the name "LA" for some odd reason. Example

>Me: Yeah I went to LA
>Them: Omg omg you went to LA?? No way that's so cool
Every, single, time.

yeah, its such a disgusting place. its only a thing because jews love living in that kind of dystopic multicultural hellhole and they have memed it for a century in hollywood films. the fantasy of living in a penthouse overlooking the peasants in a filthy sterile concrete city is a uniquely jewish trait. there's really nothing that is more antiwhite. Chinks, the jews of asia, live the same way.

NYC sucks balls.
Move somewhere like Boise or Kansas City if you must live in a city. Also, if you’re liberal please don’t move there. Consider jumping off a bridge instead.

NYC is not very good, at least Manhattan anyhow. It will become a deathtrap within several months. Other boroughs are better, generally being further east is best. I would suggest restarting off the grid. Live in the woods with a 30-06 and a .22.

Unlike a lot of cringe r/Asianmasculinity cope tards that spam BBC porn in 4chan to "get back at the dirty White men that are taking our womanz!!", I'm not an ugly fishy-looking incel so I actually do pretty decently with women myself. I am confident enough to say that I am 9/10 in looks among Asian Men, and not in a gay "K-pop beautiful nu-male" way but in being unusually big and "masculine" for an Asian (also have a full beard).

ANYWAYS with that out of the way, what I'm just saying that WM/AF couples not a comfy thing to look at all day long everywhere you go.

>Mainland Asian pussy
I avoid Mainlander CCP Chinese like the plague. Not sure why you're saying that like it's a good thing.

Also I know my Asians; most of the AF/WM couples are almost always Chinese and Korean. Flips in NYC for some reason tend to stick to their own kind more than Chinese and Koreans.

Sorry I had a stroke there. Meant to say:
