Redpill me on a career choice, /biz/. Worked as a bartender and tour guide for most of my 20's, got a BA in English (meme-degree), and am an ENTP with 136 IQ. Looking for something to further develop and use my interpersonal skills and sociability, where the earning potential can potentially be huge. Always considered teaching, but I realized that that will no longer satisfy the hunger for wealth and status I've developed by browsing this taiwanese shrimp-farming board. Surely kek and my /biz/ bros will help me in my orientation?

Don't listen to this fag.

If you're 80% of what you claim you are go to law school, work in big law for 2 years, find a comfy position. You also don't need to be smart be a lawyer, you just need to have a decent memory, attention to detail, and know how to slave around.

Maybe you should of hustled to do something after your meme BA instead of bartending

This is the only correct answer if I could do it all over again. The salaries are ridiculous. You can be a literal retard and make $200k. If you're a gunner and get into FAANG, you will be touching 7 figures within a decade. That or start your own business

Unironically do a coding bootcamp that has a graduation income average of 120k+, and once you get the job dominate as the rare non-aspie that can easily wiggle your way into upper management.

Curious about people who do this. I've heard that people don't take people that graduate from coding bootcamp seriously, and that if you don't have a BA with the cert it's shit. What did you learn? Did you really find a great job from 3 month program? Seems wild to me.

I work at a tech startup, and I know a few of our best engineers only started coding at bootcamps. I think they all had one entry-level programming job before coming here, but they have all risen through the ranks to be team leads.

I think someone who takes the initiative to attend a bootcamp and take it seriously will look good in an interview. You probably won't get a job at a cutting-edge tech company fresh out of the bootcamp but you will get a job if you learn your shit, and if you do good at that job you can get your next job at a tech company.

this would be a good idea like 2-3 years ago. it's different today. there are high end bootcamps (hack reactor, etc.) that have prerequisites and high quality instruction and serious industry connections for post-boot camp jobs, but most aren't like this. most are a waste of money, i think.

t. teaching myself to code rather than paying some jew bootcamp $15k for the same end result

>> No.24930188

The problem with that is the industry connections matter. It's like going to a good college or a state school - you could get similar education, but the resources a good college has, even with a libarts degree, is enormous

Bartending is a based job. Pays cash usually and you can avoid reporting most of it to the IRS if you aren't retarded. Bartenders pull in around 80k if they live in a major city. Only issue is most bartenders are drug addicts / alcoholics that's why they are always poor.

I started out as a Java developer in 2014, but I learned Python while working on my own projects, and this earned me a better job that kicked my career into a better place.

I'm no longer a codemonkey thankfully. If I were going to recommend a stack to learn for an aspiring youngster, it would be:
.Net
Python
SQL
a noSQL database like DynamoDB
Javascript
