Newfag here. I've been thinking about diversifying my savings and I have been thinking about buying physical gold and/or silver?

What's the best way to get into it?

Do I just buy coins?

Where do I buy it and from whom?

Dont. Peter Schiff and the whole gang are ripping you off.

This, or if you do get it only get a small amount, please don't put more than 10% of your networth into them

Bars for the cheapest premium. Coins for more security.

Buy whatever you can at the best price you can, be it coins or bars. Browse the /pmg/ precious metals general threads, read the info there. It's a nice, safe hedge and isn't subject to the problems of fiat currency.

theres a retarded amount of fraud. i suggest staying away from ebay unless its low denominational stuff like merc dimes, which there is a meme about 'round these here parts.

if i could be bothered to access the global markets, id probably be rocking some copper and uranium stock & so-called gold/silver 'minors' in places where nationalisation is unlikely to happen.

how much are you looking to invest? more than 10k is probably best to start getting it in 100oz bars.

Larger amounts will you get your prices closer to spot, but will be marginally harder to liquidate. Try to stay away from smaller fractional gold pieces.
>Do I just buy coins?
Search by price and gold/silver content. Sometimes bars, rounds, mint coins, etc. Stay away from numismatics, theyre harder to liquidate, and have no actual increased value.
>Where do I buy it and from whom?
I tend to have very little trust in my fellow man, so I only ever buy from VERY reputable websites and my LCS.

bullshit
LCS stands for local COIN store, not local bullion store. They'd much rather buy and sell numismatics than the crap you have. They can buy your bullion from the dealer much cheaper and with a lot less risk than buying from you. Old coins not so much. Those they can only get from collectors.

Only buy local with cash.

Where the fuck did you get the idea that someone wants to buy inflated shitmismatics, instead of buying for straight metal content?
Fuck off with your numismatic junk, I (and most people nowadays) only care about metal content. Not the arbitrary value placed on some old shitty piece of silver/gold.
Fucking faggot.

If you are under the age of 65 you should stay the fuck away from precious metals whatever the fuck you do.

Unless you already have fuck you money then MAYBE you can consider a tiny bit of gold and silver.

I invest about $25k a year between 401k, Roth IRA, mutual funds, etc. I was just wondering if I should start taking, say, $5k a year off of that and buying gold/silver?

buy gold coins or silver bars.
If you buy gold, buy a govt minted coin with a face value. This is currency, the sovereign property of the state and cannot be seized arbitrarily by confiscation (1933 style).

more bullshit

Like I said you buy from a fucking COIN store because ever town has a coin store and none of them have bullion stores. There's way more money and people into numismatics than straight metal stacking.

Thats not true in the slightest, and now youre just wasting my time; you fucking nigger.
Numismatics are a waste of time, and youre trying to kike this poor anon out of a good store of value.
The simple fact that there is a pile of ACTUAL stock tickers for PRECIOUS METAL CONTENT, and NOT A SINGLE one for numismatics. Means theres FAR more interest in METAL CONTENT, and not some old faggots asscoins.

>OH, BUT ITS FAKE PAPER METALS AND ALL THAT MATTERS IS THE 70YR OLD SELLING A FUCKING DUCAT
Again, metal content is what matters. Get fucked.
