I'm going to look into it but my gut says at least 20% growth in the short term due to the supply chain being messed up, and then some retracement but we can see the pre-covid peaks were much higher than now. Steel producers are still catching up to the current commodities which is why CLF Chad is making the right call, IMO

21 of the top 40 steel-producing companies are Chinese. Unless you can foresee a future where American demand for steel notably increases (whereby importing isn't needed), I'm not sure I'd expect a return to 2011 highs. 1300-1400 seems like an appropriate ceiling in the short term as we ramp up construction projects post-COVID.

I would feel very uncomfortable doing a precious metal leveraged play, they have too many non-industrial factors.

Steel: CLF Chad sold me on it, but here is my DD: 1) CLF is way undervalued. 2) The price targets keep moving up, price targets are always a little conservative so when you see them moving up as time goes on you know you've got something 3) Steel is still going up and for very tangible reasons (covid disrupted supply / countries funding construction to rebound eocnomies)

Lithium: EVs are exploding, enough said.

Uranium: I actually forgot my DD, lol. It's weird cause uranium is actually dropping but producers are going up, I think they just lagged the commodities by a lot plus countries are warming up to nuclear again.

So I wish I had a formulaic way to pick them but I don't. CLF I think has the best current day fundamentals and industry fundamentals. Lithium and Uranium I think have fantastic mid term growth potential and investors have caught on.

For technical analysis I just make sure it's in an upward trendline cause if I'm leveraging I don't want to wait for some speculative 6 month moon mission. Just don't get caught at the tail end of a growth period.

CLF calls are still a good play. Personally I think the price target is $16-20, CLF chad thinks it's $50 or some huge number. Either way a $15 strike with several months expiry will give you a mix of risk and leverage that I would feel comfortable with.

I had a $13 Dec 11th call that I kept until Dec 10th and that was a HUGE gainer, but it also scared the shit out of me.

Sorry, I'm a retarded spazz.

The PE like CLF Chad has pointed out is very low compared to the industry. Low PE is expected if there is no growth potential, but CLF is growing both due to the industry AND due to acquisitions of some of the most high tech steel plants in the country. Companies with high growth expectations should have high PE.

That would come back to bite the US in the long run locking up a massive US statistic resource for good but NAKs handling of the project brought this about and now they have to live with it.

Here's the full image.
Not sure who made this thread but some of us at /pmg/ were readying some links for a commodities general. We tried making a few threads but /biz just wasn't ready for /comgen/ just yet. Somebody posted a copy-paste of some of the links we came up with somewhere above but we're nowhere near ready. We have the mining side covered but should add info on agri, oil/gas, futures and a bunch of other things that might be commodities-related.
I've some of those links saved but an OP general message needs to be worked on. Not ready yet and no idea when I'll be able to work with Pan Man or somebody with the necessary knowledge related to commodities. Pretty sure Pan Man himself doesn't know too much about oil and gas besides the basics at least.

TL;DR: Yes, but no.

CLF

"It was the plan when I came to Cleveland-Cliffs in 2014," said Gonclaves, the chairman, president and CEO, in an interview last week. "It was a multiyear plan that was executed to perfection. It isn't consolidation for consolidation's sake. Consolidation works when you have the right vision and the right strategy. We're stronger with more assets."

After the $1.4 billion acquisition of ArcelorMittal USA closed last week, Cleveland-Cliffs is taking over ArcelorMittal East and West in East Chicago, ArcelorMittal Burns Harbor in Porter County, ArcelorMittal Riverdale just over the state line in Illinois, the I/N Tek and I/N Kote finishing lines in New Carlisle, and ArcelorMittal's Gary heat treat and rolling facilities inside U.S. Steel's Gary Works steel mill.

"We are excited, energized, and fully committed to the area and the state," Goncalves said. "We are fully committed to the assets. We love the assets. We love the business. Our mission will be accomplished with all these assets under our control. We will work with the unions to seize this opportunity and generate wealth.

"With our integrated footprint, we are self-sufficient with the right cost structure to take care of the business," he said. "We have the technical capacity to take care of the clients. We will be the automotive supplier of choice."

The company is "basically buying its own client" to help bring down operating costs, Goncalves said.

Cleveland-Cliffs supplying iron ore to its own steel mills will solve the problem of high and fluctuating input costs that has bedeviled the American steel industry for years, he said

I don't remember my DD on BG but it has something to do with basedbean futures and their current pricing, and Brazil. Companies which supply farm equipment to Brazil will do well also.

Does anyone know where I can see seasonal trends on commodities? I.E., lumber typically drops in the fall because as it gets colder building projects will slow down or halt. Natural gas typically does better in winter because it's used to heat homes. I am looking for a resource that displays seasonal trends in all commodities.

In fact, it is monazite that they are increasing production on which is a result of the catalyst of the US department of energy entering an agreement with the company for the production of REE from coal-based resources.

Do you know where helium can be extracted from? Monazite. Good thing we’re also in a helium shortage. $10 is fud for UUUU. It’s going to $25+.

I heard an investors call with ConocoPhillips. They are expecting oil at $60 by summer. They are dropping 3 rigs and will have close to 14 in Texas. Both Permian and Eagle Ford. Might be good future for them after Concho merge. Largest shale player and massive production per day.
>but XOM is much more focused on oil and they have expansion plans in the works for the future i.e. guyana.
XOM has a bad future. They just wrote down 20 billion, their first write down in ages i think. They just fired a massive portion of their upstream geos and engineers, and have poor cash flow and other issues popping up all over. All on top of a desperation to maintain that divy. If that divy goes its falling like a rock and they know it. CVX and COP are much better. If you want Guyana action just go with Hess. Much better management and partnered with XOM on most of those platforms in Guyana.

I posted that lumber was going to moon in /smg/ about 10 times before it hit ATH and I'm not exactly an expert in this. 0% federal interest rates + people trying to get out of cities/California have created a huge housing boom, and looking at any homebuilder's stock since March will show you this. Of course lumber was going to moon, the demand was ridiculous. Then the Pacific Northwest, a huge supplier of lumber to the rest of the country, was engulfed in historic wildfires for 2 months so supply went down drastically. Prices peaked in Sept because you can't build things outside in winter, and at the peak I continuously posted that it was a bad time to buy, then afterwards I posted several times that people were stupid for buying at the top. It's rising now because it was oversold from the peak but will come back down. Buy in late winter before building season begins and we'll probably get another ATH next August/Sept. Best way to do this is a northeastern supplier of lumber.
