Several reasons. Here are my major ones:
1. First ever blockchain to use proof-of-personhood. It used a synchronous puzzle test that people have to solve at the same time that proves their humanity. Each person who proves they are a unique human in this test gets a reward AND gets to participate in equal PoS-type mining with every node getting exactly the same amount of coins. The total reward for mining between two tests is equal to taking one test. Currently tests are ever 2.5 weeks. This test also gives people a unique human identity on chain without having to provide ANY personal data.
2. Because it used PoP and PoS, it is the most decentralized mining AND the most scalable mining. Nobody can be uber rich because it is all equal one-per-person. There are cases where people organize together and submit all their rewards to a single address (called farms), but those people do it willingly and do it for payments in their local currencies.
3. From #2, I bet you can immediately see the use case of decade — UBI. Today Idena gives hundreds of people UBI in their local currencies after exchanging it. There are a lot of russian poor people who legit depend on it as their government failed them.
4. It is up to 4k mining nodes (5k total validated identities, but a good thousand just don’t want to mine) already. For reference, ETH and BTC is at around 10k nodes only.
5. It is barely $3mil marketcap. Yep, not even kidding.
6. They’re about to release oracles for voting via this decentralized “1 human 1 vote” filter
