I don't think we can know in advance what an appropriate sell price is. What you have to do is have a general idea at what price, right now, would be a compelling price for you to sell. As the PM approaches that price, you have to evaluate economic conditions as well as market sentiment to decide whether to sell or hang on.

In 2011, there was extreme bullishness on silver and that was an indicator sell.

At the moment, I will prepare to sell a portion of my silver (I have thousands of ounces) if it hits $45/ozt. Of course, as I said above, I must evaluate economic conditions and sentiment. If the USD totally goes to pot and it costs $20 for one chicken egg, then obviously $45/ozt is too low for silver. Likewise, if CPI, PPI, PCE are low and you have trolls all hyping silver, it's probably time to sell at least a portion. Likewise, one should sell or hedge one's mining stocks in such an environment.

I think with the mining stocks especially you have to think about what signs you're going to look for as sell signals. With mining stocks you have two intermediate steps to get from stock>dollar>PM> to assets. Whereas PMs are just PM>asset in the event of hyperinflation/hyperdeflation, and that seems to be what people are holding mining stocks and PMs for

Also, are we really so sure that manipulation of price in terms of dollars won't prevent the price from mooning during that sort of scenario? If everybody is trying to get out of dollars then mining stocks will dump super fast from the peak assuming the spot price of PMs has increased and they have traced the movement without manipulation on either

>> No.24652675

>>24652581
True, the mining stocks are essentially a derivative of the PMs themselves. However, it is possible though highly unlikely that the management of a mining company are exceptionally skilled traders/macro economists and can hedge their production. I wouldn't count on it, though. That said, mining stocks are very easily sold and can be sold in a few seconds without much thought. Selling physical PMs one has in one's possession is more difficult, which I why I recommend everybody draft a plan for selling so when the time comes, they won't suffer some sort of paralysis by analysis.

I didn't see the second half of your posting before posting my initial reply. My view is not as complicated as yours because I do not believe there will be a hyperinflation. This means that if I were to sell my mining stocks because a price target has been achieved, I would feel relatively comfortable holding cash.

I posted a series of long posts a few days ago that went into much more detail about this. The principal signal to sell a mining stock (assuming no fraud, mismanagement, or government interventions) would be the same signal for selling physical PMs. When the PMs are skyrocketing and everyone and his dog is hawking PMs as a way to get rich, it's time to sell or hedge one's PMs and mining stocks positions.

A good production hedge for precious metals mining companies is simply put base metals. If pm's go down and the economy starts doing well base metals will go up thanks to industry. But for deflation? I don't think many companies hold short positions on 30-year treasuries

>> No.24652948

>>24652803
I'm just distrustful of stocks because they are different from PMs in that PMs have two prices really, the spot price and the real price (man to man); Stocks can only be bought and sold digitally. PMs will always have the backdoor escape route of being able to sell to someone even though that would mean less liquidity whereas in a digital/online market you have access to pretty much anyone who would want to buy. So there's pros and cons, but I feel safer in PMs.

In terms of public acceptance of PMs, in my view that is going to be hyperinflationary because if the masses got so far off the reservation that they are starting to use gold and silver as money again the dollar paradigm will have lost substantial hold over their minds and therefore will be worth less

I have had a very interesting thought with regard to repudiation of the fiat USD. While many believe that it would be hyperinflationary, perhaps guaranteed so, I believe that is entirely dependent on US policy. Mind you, I agree that the monkeys in charge of the Fed and Treasury probably don't have the guts to do what I'm about to say but hear me out.

If the USD were repudiated and people started transacting using PMs or even a foreign currency whenever possible, it doesn't change the fact that all US government debts are denominated in USD and must e paid in USD. What the US government could do is get real religion when it comes to fiscal rectitude and start actually paying down the debt. The populace would have to continue paying all taxes in USD which creates a demand for USD. Eventually, the debt would all be paid off.

Here's the interesting thing that was brought to my attention that I hadn't previously considered. The USD has lost purchasing power every year since its devaluation in 1933. During that long period of time the USD lost purchasing power, the US debt got bigger and bigger. Wouldn't it stand to reason, then, that the USD would get stronger and stronger as the debt diminished? If we got serious about eliminating the debt by paying it off, it might even be possible that $20 would buy an ounce of gold once again. Of course, the US would see a long deflation during this period.

The US would not even have to pay off all the debt. The paying off of a good portion of the debt would encourage people and foreign investors to once again want to hold USD. You need only look at what happened to the Canadian dollar from the 1980s to around 2003. Once Canada cleaned up their books somewhat, the CAD went from $0.63USD to about $1.08USD.

Two brand new underground drill rigs to be shipped in January for continued drilling in the old Tuvatu mine located in property for drilling closer to the deposit, with drilling to continue with three (was it three?) drills on surface as long as weather allows (rainy season coming)

>AWE
Another company located in Fiji. Very small junior exploration company with four properties located close by to each other. Two properties with high grade zinc-copper VMS deposits -- probably part of the same deposit, also company in progress of staking a claim of a piece of land that would combine these properties -- of which they're exploring the other one with their JV partner JOGMEC that is fully funding exploration. Then they've got a copper-gold porphyry asset with promising potential; as well as a gold-silver sulhpidation asset that they're going to begin drilling any day now.

>MTH
Interesting story. They had a JV with Centerra who had spent million on exploring the property and readying it for drilling. Centerra had come up with over 100 drilling targets until they suddenly gave back full interest to Mammoth after a corporate decision to retreat from Mexico altogether due to safety concerns. MTH is now trying to ready themselves for a major drilling program of their own. The property bears a lot of gold and has big potential. Share is way undervalued now and I regret buying only 4k shares at 0.055CAD. Will probably add more at some point. Share at 0.09CAD now, target is at least 0.2CAD

Cool to see an /smg/ guy coming here with an open mind ready to learn about mining. If you've any questions that come up during DD or during reading the pastebin, just ask away. Plenty of people here can help you and we even have industry professionals in the thread who understand how things work in practice and who've experience that no amount of learning or DD could ever bring. One thing for juniors is that the price of the stock responds to new value being created rather than earnings. New value is created when the company explores a property and begins defining their deposit(s) and creating resource/reserve estimates, meaning the share price moves in accordance to the estimated net present value of the mine even though it might take many years to even begin developing a mine.

PAY PEOPLE IN SILVER AND GOLD NOW NOT WHEN COLLAPSE HAPPENS. The cultural awakening starts with you. They don't have to know about your stack they just have to know that you pay them in normal transaction amounts. People like handling silver and gold. They will like to receive it as payment once they get over the initial weirdness because it's not a cultural norm. The normies are ready to wake up, people are resorting to depression era tactics like canning food in record numbers so much so that glass canning jars and supplies are out of stock across the nation. Things are reverting to a more basic fundamental and REAL way of life and with that needs to come a reversion to REAL MONEY! Even better, try to barter whatever you can. Do ANYTHING to materially avert the course of our society away from the Great ResetTM rent everything own nothing HELL that will be the NEW NORMAL if we don't re-normalize what is normal. They don't fear a bunch of weirdos hoarding their gold and silver until everything "collapses" around them into a dystopia techno slave hell which they control through Central Bank Digital Currency; they fear uncontrollable money (or even no money, bartering) re-asserting itself.

If you can pay someone in an ounce of silver or gold when you would have paid them in dollars anyway, that's one more ounce that's being "stacked" by being put into circulation in the economy, or actually stacked by the person who you paid, at no cost to you besides having to put the time and energy into convincing them to accept it. It puts a little more pressure on the gold silver price suppression scheme in addition to the pressure all stackers already are on their own. You can only save so much gold and silver yourself. By gaining cultural acceptance there will begin to be a consistent draw on global gold and silver supply as they are a very limited resource as all of us know. It will grow as economic conditions worsen and the nature of the globalists schemes come into focus for even the average normie. We have to be there to have already laid the groundwork, the seedlings, of a monetary alternative. You know those ponzi and marketing schemes where you can get a few dollars off a product or service for each person you introduce to the product or service? That will work in the same way for paying people in silver and gold by increasing the value of your stack, except it's not a ponzi or marketing scheme, it's a real cultural shift and acceptance of/revaluation of these commodities that all of us stackers hold. There's a market ripe for exploitation, all we have to do is think a little bit to initialize this process, then it will continue on its own.

I mentioned earlier that I had a fantastic trade idea. I'm not gonna do it myself but here it is:
Tether is obviously not even remotely 1:1 backed. But even Visa is saying that USDC is as good as cash. On compound.finance you can loan USDC and borrow USDT at a net cost of like 0.5% apy. You can then take that USDT and go over to Kinesis and buy gold. Not only would you have a short $/long gold trade, but you would have a short ponzi scheme/long gold trade at a cost of 0.5% apy. It would double your returns over pure gold if Tether corrects to $0.70 per coin and gold reaches 2200.

Just look for opportunities to normalize paying and accepting payment in gold and silver which increases the value of your stack by making it more liquid

Well, when they decide, "OK, time to stick it to the gweilos" I think a lot of people will have the same skepticism about them declaring say, 20k tons of gold.

One thing is for sure: nobody is fooling the PBOC with gold platted copper bars. Dishonesty being part of your culture also means trusting no one, least of all your own countrymen. I guarantee they melt and re-cast every bar that comes through their doors. If they have fakes it's because they made them.

So, the question becomes, how to convince the rest of the world? The Chinese are smart enough to know nobody is gonna take their word for it. They'll figure something out.

If it were me? I'd contract some swiss refiners or set up an arrangement with foreign governments and banks, let them have free run of the vaults to audit the bars, and let them check out any randomly chosen bars they want for testing and publishing the results.

Not necessarily, what makes gold and silver so good for use as a currency is that historically it wasn’t used for much else. The only big ones I can think of are gold (and silver to lesser extent) for jewelry, and then the very niche stuff like colloidal silver. If extremely common things like food or clothing were used as currency then the supply would expand and contract wildly, because people will eat the food and use the clothing.

Weeb bars?! You mean my Asahis? If so, they are really clean and pretty much the exact same design as the rounds just on a waffer. I like them a lot, super clean stuff. Only issue is they are slightly under size of my air-tite capsules so they wiggle a bit.

The only reasons gold and silver aren't used widely is because of their scarcity. Their qualities make them perfect for a huge amount of industrial applications. If we could afford to, we would use them in everything. That's why there is constant demand for them throughout history, because even if they weren't used as medium of exchange, as a commodity itself they are very valuable.

Holy shit no wonder Canada will never achieve US-tier prosperity
I fucking hate this country

I'm like 99% sure that even after shipping and 5% GST that a Canadian can get shit from the states for less than they can buy it domestically, and with a larger selection too

If only the one way to get a cash discount wasn't fucking BTC I'd have ordered shit-tons from the US a while ago. I'm amazed they don't take USDT, and I can't pay any other way and get a discount lol

>gold in the 1930s but with BTC
>/pmg/ is BEARISH on this
They're literally saying you'll need to give your BTC to a centralised institution, which will credit you with BTC certificates in exchange. "Hoarding" BTC in your own wallet will be illegal. This should be the most bullish news imaginable. They're saying private ownership of wealth will now be outlawed. I'm bullish on gold too but if you don't see what's happening and laugh at the bitcoiners instead of supporting them, then they'll just come for gold next like they have with BTC over the past few weeks
>gold hurts banks
>banks support minorities
>by hurting the banks, gold stackers are racist
>greedy gold hoarders aren't sharing their wealth
>we need to make private ownership of gold illegal too like we did with BTC
>think of what we, the government, could do with all this money instead rather than being selfish and greedy

And hmm, should I buy coins or bars?
Silver or gold?

Pure gold is 24k. Physical ownership of platinum and Palladium is extremely low. You’ll pay a high premium and expect a huge hit when you go to sell as well, it’s not a great idea unless you’re doing it within an IRA or you just gonna bury it in the ground and dig it up in 20 years.

Canadian prosperity is an oxymoron. This country is an oligarchy, no need for established businesses to innovate or become more efficient when they can just ban all competition at the government level. Our country exists to bottleneck every possible industry and service and charge the highest tolls possible in the process.

One more piece here... Gold and particularly silver are significantly easier to transact with anonymously. They are significantly more difficult to track because there doesn't need to be an off ramp like BTC needs for energy. Gold and silver are elements and that's it!

Canada is a shithole man, let's face the facts. I've lived here my whole life but I'm dual citizen, when the time comes and the funds are there I'm going to move the the States. Everything in this country is stacked against you. As another anon put it the government is so corrupt it literally stiffles competition, innovation and consumer choices. I wish my fellow Canadians could get over their inferiority complex with the Americans and recognize they do some things right and better than we do.
