What banks do rich people use? Cause I can't see them using normal retail banks, where if you do anything with a sum of more than 20k they look at you like you've broken the law

There are some smaller private banks only taking people who have at least X amount of money.

Private Banking exists, but is generally reserved for families with +$10M liquid. Anything less than that is a waste of time/money for either party.

There's also "enhanced" retail banking (e.g. Chase Private Client) but it's not entirely clear what the actual benefits are if you are someone who is actively aware of, and involved in, the management of their own finances.

what benefits are you looking for?

aside from advisory on tax strategies, you're only going to marginal benefits from an enhanced retail banking experience. even then, you could supplant that with a CPA and/or a *real* Financial Advisor. Not some fuck who works for Edward Jones, etc those people are literally just salesmen who actually dont know what their doing.

The bad experience I had today WAS with Deutsche Bank

>>24645301
Well today I wanted to transfer 100k and of course they raised an eyebrow. I went into s branch to do it there in order to bypass any security phone calls that might come if I do it online, only for the people in the bank to have no idea. Ended up doing it online in 2 parts, called online banking to check that it's ok, and they said someone might call me for a security check. Either way it was hardly easy. Can't imagine what's going to happen when I want to shift around 7 figs, hence the question. So far Citi Bank has been the best experience

Some of the oldest banks in the world are small private banks that only deal with rich clients. You just got to shop around to know which bank is best for you.

the 20k is referring to security checks banks do if you transfer more than that amount

>> No.24646203

>>24645806
transfers/deposits/wires of certain amounts always trigger some level of due diligence for AML/KYC, this if federally mandated so you're not going to get away from it with any banking experience.

that said, some are definitely going have more seamless solutions to do so

I get that, it's just retail banks seem totally unprepared for bigger transfers. It's such a hassle when it really shouldn't be, which is why there must be other banks that make it easier and more efficient. It also pisses me off that it takes DAYS to send money somewhere. I'm really done with banks I'm going to shift totally to crypto and keep shit in usdc

Kraken is getting into the banking sector game next year, imagine having crypto and a regular checking account rolled into one.

>> No.24647051

It will take days to transfer any large amount of money because banks usually use your money as collateral for their investments. They have to untie that money first to transfer it. But like you have been told, private banks that deal with personal wealth/asset management are much more used to dealing with wealthy clients. Many retail banks also have a small private arm for dealing with rich clients, so ask your bank manager.

Or you can go somewhere in-between and get the premium accounts from retail banks.

In the UK it would be older banks like Coutts, Hoares and Arbuthnot Latham. Why do you ask?
