What makes the USD the reserve currency is not so much about our ability to produce, but our ability to consume. Right now our ability to produce has been hammered by 7yo chinks, and if those are replaced by machines, it makes no difference to Americans as it is.

It does make a difference however to continue to do this at home. The power of the US's reserve currency comes from a few pillars:
1 - The federal reserve, and central banks. Virtually everywhere you go, you can exchange your US dollars for the currency of the country you're in because of the reach of the federal reserve
2 - As a result of #1, it means the US dollar is used as the main means of foreign exchange for trade. If Brazil and Korea trade with each other, they use the USD as a buffer currency, so they need to have a RESERVE of us dollars in order to perform the trade.
3 - Petro dollar: You need a RESERVE of us dollars to buy oil.
4 - A stable, trustworthy government where its people are guaranteed to pay taxes: This is one of the main assets. Because treasury bonds are GUARANTEED RETURNS by the IRS (and the Federal reserve), this makes everyone buy them, and thus the safety of the US dollar is known.
5 - US's control of the financial system is widespread: If you wire money to someone somewhere, eventually that wire will need to use US dollars.

Note: This is why US sanctions are pretty much a death sentence for countries and trade. You need dollars to survive. That's why everyone needs to have a RESERVE of it

China does not have any of these, no one trusts their government or their currency, and it is not automation that will give them them any of these points.
