You can only make it if you drop your all desires, thoughts. You'll be happy only if you don't think about the past or future.

Do you think one needs to be future focused, and have some drive towards something? Or do you think we should sit around and try to be enlightened all day? I understand awareness is helpful, but isn’t focus as well?

Desire is the root of all human suffering, but also the root of all contentment. We cannot drop our desires, but we should look inside ourselves and constantly make sure our motivations and wants are healthy.

Based buddhapill OP. I finally got rid of depression when I started meditating and gained insight.

Insight into the workings of the mind, how it creates suffering for itself through creating concepts (such as the self, past, future) and unnecessary attachment. Once you gain insight (experiential insight, not conceptual insight), you stop creating suffering automatically. You start living much more aware, more present, and with fewer attachments. You can still have fun, experience emotions like love and joy, but life gains a certain quality of lightness, a lack of seriousness.

When I was depressed, everything was very serious and life was a gray anxious slog. Now I feel a sense of adventure and joy in daily life.
